Tom Soper

Senior Lecturer in Music Business

I'm a pianist, songwriter-producer and DJ with a love of vinyl records, pop and funk/soul music, who wrote for, managed & toured with record labels in the 90s and 00s. I lecture in professional practice specialising in music & media entrepreneurship.

Biography

I have been a professional songwriter, performer and DJ since 1995 and managed Turbotrax Recordings, a vinyl-only independent label that also licensed/synced its music to TV, film and advertising. I have toured regularly as a pianist and as a DJ and also manage an events agency. My music has been broadcast on the BBC, ITV, Sky TV and Virgin and licensed to compilations such as Compost Records’ Future Sound of Jazz series and Fatboy Slim’s Live at Bondi Beach. My lectures focus on label and rights management, music technology, dance music subcultures, critical theory and songwriting.
