The Upper Quadrant Part 1 - Critical review of the examination and assessment and how to treat

This course explores the upper quadrant and the injuries that could affect this area. Clinicians are taught to think critically about assessment and treatment techniques and will develop and enhance their own clinical reasoning.  Clinicians will also look at the psychological factors affecting sporting injury and rehabilitation and understand how and when they should refer an athlete to a sports psychologist.

The intensive 2 day course will include:

  • Functional anatomy and biomechanics
  • Assessment of the upper quadrant
  • Review of special tests and research support
  • Functional kinetic chain testing
  • Treatment techniques which address the elbow, shoulder, cervical and thoracic spine
  • Lumbopelvic relationship to the upper quadrant

The Upper Quadrant Part 2 - Specific rehabilitation strategies

This 2 day course will enable all therapists to tackle the common problems of the upper quadrant bringing together key treatments of the cervical and thoracic spine, shoulder and elbow.

Case studies will be used to enable clinicians to develop advanced rehabilitation programs and return to play strategies (RTP) using current research.

The intensive 2 day course will include:

  • Practical solutions to upper quadrant problems
  • Review of rehabilitation stages
  • Return to play/return to function pathways
  • Application to clinical case studies

The course has a strong practical component so please bring appropriate clothing.

Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instruction (Gym)

The Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instruction (Gym) will provide you with the professionally recognised qualification you need to become a trusted Gym Instructor.

This is the essential qualification employers want to see if you want to enter the fitness industry.

On this course you will complete anatomy and physiology modules that will be backed up with practical sessions. You will learn how to write exercise programmes and then how deliver these in a gym based environment.

Course content

  • Anatomy and physiology for exercise
  • Support clients taking part in exercise and physical activity
  • Health, safety and welfare in a fitness environment
  • Principles of exercise, fitness and health
  • Preparing for gym-based exercise
  • Instructing gym-based exercise

There are no prerequisites for this course, but familiarity with a gym based environment would be beneficial.

Please be aware that elements of the course are practical in nature so appropriate gym apparel is required.

Note: It is important to note that this structure is streamlined as many students who choose these course have a back ground in exercise delivery and cover anatomy and physiology as part of their degree programme. Level 3 Certificate in Personal Training

The Level 3 Certificate in Personal Training qualification allows you to work on a one to one basis with a wide variety of clients.

This is the essential qualification employers want to see if you want to enter the fitness industry.

The options you have after this course are only limited by your imagination…progress to sports therapy or strength and conditioning… work for a health club or start your own fitness company. The choice is yours!

Course content

  • Anatomy and physiology for health and exercise
  • Applying the principles of nutrition to an activity programme
  • Programming personal training with clients
  • Delivering personal training sessions

Prerequisites: To take part in this course you must have evidence of passing the Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instruction (Gym)

Please be aware that elements of the course are practical in nature so appropriate gym apparel is required.​
