Looking after tomorrow is one of the biggest challenges the world faces today.
Unsustainable practices are deepening the impact of environmental degradations, extending inequalities in our society and across the globe, as well as limiting quality of life. Rising to the challenge of developing a sustainable future is at the heart of our aspirations.
Our commitment to sustainability has led us to be acknowledged as a sector leader. The University was ranked as No.1 in the Green People and Planet League of Universities (2008) and awarded a Green Gown for Continuous Improvement (2008). This is an important agenda for us and we are never complacent - we constantly seek to improve our performance.
Our new Sustainability Strategy (2008-2015) is intended to strengthen our credentials and add value to what we do.
Our Vision
We have an institutional commitment to Sustainability and work to embed sustainability across our courses, plans and activities. It's not just about challenging unsustainable practice, but about changing ways of thinking and mindsets, creating promising futures for all through education. (see our Sustainability Education pages).
We recognise that our sustainability efforts depend on staff and student engagement. We provide opportunities to become involved in hands-on projects, as well as, to engage in dialogue and learning with external stakeholders (see our Sustainability News and Events pages).
Our research agenda is increasingly focused on building interdisciplinary and socially relevant research (see our Sustainability Research pages) in the area of sustainability. Through our partnership approach we seek to make real and relevant changes in our region and beyond. (see our UNU RCE pages).
We seek to practice what we preach and continue our quest to mirror our commitment across the campuses (see our Sustainability Practice and Procurement pages) in the area of sustainability.
