Bringing together professionals from a range of industries and both the public and private sectors, degree apprentices work together with other learners to tackle complex business problems. As such, they are encouraged be adaptable in their thinking and constructively challenging of current practices, theories and ideas within a learning environment.
From day one, degree apprentices are required to apply their learning in their workplace, meaning the impact for their employer is immediate.
Apprentices will have a personal tutor and module tutors providing advice and guidance throughout their studies, as well as support from our Student Helpzone staff. The employer will be able to access our dedicated apprenticeship support team, meaning you're able to get the best out of your staff and the apprenticeship.
Teaching is delivered over two years and learners normally attend university on set days. However, the timing of taught elements can be tailored to suit learner needs. In addition, where we have large groups of learners all employed by the same organisation, we are also able to offer alternative study locations (for example, we can deliver teaching at your offices).
Degree apprentices develop their knowledge through peer interaction, case studies and business simulation exercises. Assessments are through presentations, independent projects, essays, business cases and business venture proposals.
Degree apprentices also benefit from workshops and events organised by the university involving specialist guest speakers, such as CEOs and senior managers from the public and private sectors. These help learners to further their understanding in specialist subjects, ranging from change management, to corporate finance.
During Year 1 learners are introduced to the principles of Leadership by Design - this brings fresh perspectives and new theories, encouraging learners to develop their creativity, innovation, entrepreneurial and intrapreneurial mindsets, and solve complex business problems. Topics of study include Markets and Customers, Business Decision-Making and Financial Tools for Business.
Assignments and work-based projects underpin classroom content, ensuring learners are able to put theory into practice from the outset.

|Leadership by Design addresses the need to develop design centred leaders that will facilitate organisations to achieve their financial and social aims in a rapidly changing economy.
|Understanding Markets and Customers utilises a wealth of disciplines (including design thinking, psychology and sociology) to form the basis for our analysis of business-to-consumer and business-to-business customer behaviour. This analysis is done in the context of informing strategic marketing decisions.
|Business Decision Making aims to provide learners with an applied understanding of business decision making by focusing on behavioural and management science approaches.
||Financial Tools for Business introduces learners to sources of long and short term finance and explores their organisation's relationship with financial markets. Learners gain essential tools for the analysis and interpretation of financial and other value statements.
Year 2 topics include Consultancy, where learners develop an understanding of the consultancy process and an awareness of the multitude of stakeholders involved in delivering business interventions that result in improved performance. Other modules include Project Management, International Management and Strategic Management.
Degree apprentices showcase their knowledge through an in-depth study which can either take the form of a traditional research project or it can be more applied in its focus - for example, it could be a business development project.

|Project Management explores how project management can enable an organisation to improve results and deliver change.
|Year Two Project gives learners the choice of either undertaking an international management project or a consultancy intervention. The former includes a five day research trip to Milan, New York or Hong Kong. The latter involves four days at university, as well as four 1hour meetings with an SME.
|Strategic Management explores current research and knowledge in strategic management theory and practice. Learners apply a practical and scenario driven approach at both business and corporate level, and in different organisational contexts.
|Innovation and Change through Design provides learners with experience of managing real world situations faced by organisations. Learners are required to manage innovation and change by applying the principles of design thinking, generating and taking ideas from inception through to implementation.
The compulsory End Point Assessment consists of two elements: a project showcase and a professional discussion. The project showcase involves as presentation to the learner's employer and course tutor, where they will set out their research findings and conclusions in relation to a real-world challenge affecting the organisation they work for and / or the sector as a whole. The professional discussion is based on a review of the degree apprentice's learning portfolio (a reflective journal recording the learner's development). The End Point Assessment takes place after completion of Years 1 and 2.
