Exploring the varied world of education, you’ll develop your own personal philosophy and career path, whether in teaching or another education-related profession.
Sustainability and social justice are central to the course. You’ll examine global issues such as climate change, inequality, migration, changing societies and disability to further explore the role of education. Psychology helps our understanding of individuals, groups and society to enable you to make a positive impact. Optional modules allow you to tailor your degree to suit your interests and career aspirations.
You’ll get real-world experience through our network of over 400 schools in Gloucestershire and beyond. You can complete placements and volunteer in animal shelters, schools, colleges, youth centres, museums and residential homes.
Your practice and professional development will be underpinned by lectures, seminars, tutorials and workshops. You’ll complete a range of assessments such as written assignments, individual and group presentations, case studies, blogs and in-class exams.
It’s planned that this course will be taught at UoG’s new campus in Gloucester city centre from September 2025. This provides time to ensure a smooth transition and familiarisation with the new facilities for all.

It will bring an iconic building back to life as a modern centre for teaching, learning and community partnerships, through placements, research and outreach activity, and provide cutting-edge facilities for your course.

English Language or Literature and Maths Grade 4/C in GCSE (or equivalent) are normally required.
We welcome applications from mature students (aged 21 and over) and do not necessarily require the same academic qualifications as school leaving applicants, although some entry requirements may still apply for Professionally Accredited Courses. We accept Access to Higher Education Diplomas and make offers on an individual basis.

You have a choice of modules at level 5 and level 6 so that you can tailor your degree to suit your interests and career aspirations.
Work placements are key, making sure you gain valuable experience and contacts. In your first year, you’ll do some volunteering before completing placements in your second and final year. You’ll progress to work in a variety of settings from schools to animal shelters.
You’ll learn how to use education to create a better world. You’ll explore global issues of inequality and get involved in community projects to make a difference locally.

Our Francis Close Hall campus has been part of our heritage for 150 years and it is home to our active community of experienced teachers and practitioners. While just a 10 minute walk from Cheltenham town centre, you’ll find everything you need on site, including IT labs with cutting edge equipment, a specialist library, café and shop.
