What is Marketing Advertising and Branding BA (Hons)?

You’ll learn the art of persuasion by working with real clients in advertising and gain a Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) accredited degree, recognised by major employers. On the course, you’ll explore subjects such as consumer behaviour, marketing communications and the global business environment in you first year.

You’ll hear from people who have been there and done it. Leading international brands will deliver inspiring lectures and give you real insight into how to succeed in global business. Guests have included Superdry, whose marketing campaigns have seen the brand sell their products to over 100 countries worldwide.

Study style

You’ll learn through a mix of lectures, seminars, group work and presentations, working on live marketing challenges, connecting products, services and brands to customers. You can specialise and tailor your degree to your interests with subjects such as luxury brand management, services marketing and the advertising agency. You’ll learn how to pitch to clients, manage the creative process and deliver on brief, preparing you perfectly for the working world.

Real-world application is embedded throughout your learning and you’ll work on live marketing challenges with UK and international brands such as Disney, IMI and CapGemini. You’ll have plenty of work placement opportunities. Previous students have worked for companies such as Warner Bros and BMW.

Entry requirements

    • 112 tariff points (calculate your points at

      Your points must include at least 2 A Levels, BTEC or equivalent qualifications, for example:
      BBC at A levels, DMM at BTEC or use a combination of qualifications to achieve the required tariff.

      If your course has a fast-track option that you’re applying to, you’ll also need to pass an entry interview.

    • We welcome applications from mature students (aged 21 and over) and do not necessarily require the same academic qualifications as school leaving applicants though the entry requirements still apply.

      Some courses require several years of working experiences in the relevant industry.

    • English and Maths Grade 4/C in GCSE (or equivalent) are normally required.

So not only do you graduate with a degree in marketing, advertising and branding, with exemptions from the CIM Diploma, you’ll have practical national experience plus a wider exposure to life overall.

PLACEMENT TYPE: 12-Month, Optional

DURATION: 12 months, full-time (minimum 35 hours per week)

LOCATION: Placements can be carried out in the UK or overseas; popular overseas placement destinations include the USA, China and Europe. You may even wish to source your own placement in other countries.

VISA REQUIREMENTS: If carrying out a placement abroad, there may be a visa requirement.

FINANCIAL ARRANGEMENTS: On your placement year you will pay a reduced tuition fee and are still eligible to apply for a maintenance loan. Financial support is also available from the Student Finance Team by contacting
