This course will equip you with the knowledge and skills required to design embedded systems for various applications of control, diagnostics, monitoring and communication in the era of the Internet of Things, Industry 4.0 and 5.0.

The course will develop your understanding of key aspects of electrical and electronics engineering and how they fit into the context of the full range of industrial sectors and rapidly-developing everyday applications.

You’ll address the challenges, problems and solutions involved in electrical and electronics engineering in modern industry including:

  • The optimal and intelligent electrical and electronic system design and development
  • Engineering operation and management
  • Pioneering approaches in this field and how to apply them to solve real-world and pioneer research-oriented problems.

The programme is designed for students interested in developing their careers in areas of theoretical and practical aspects of electrical and electronics systems engineering. It also provides excellent preparation for those wishing to continue their study to doctoral level research.

12 months, full-time (minimum 35 hours per week)

Location:

Placements can be carried out in the UK or overseas; popular overseas placement destinations include the USA, China and Europe. You may even wish to source your own placement in other countries.

Visa requirements:

If carrying out a placement abroad, there may be a visa requirement.

Financial arrangements:

On your placement year you will pay a reduced tuition fee and are still eligible to apply for a maintenance loan. Financial support is also available from the Student Finance Team by contacting moneyadvice@glos.ac.uk.

You will have a chance to practice your knowledge in local companies such as ABB, MOOG, SC Group, Spirax Sarco, Dowty Propeller, Kohler Mira and Total Metal Products Ltd.
