The BSc (Hons) Sport Coaching Science degree aims to develop your understanding of the dynamic and complex interactions which exist within the coaching environment. You will investigate the science behind performance for athletes and coaches, while developing vital practical coaching skills.
This programme explores key pathways in pedagogy, leadership and coaching sciences such as physiology, biomechanics, psychology, ethics, and performance analysis, offering opportunities to explore theoretical and practical issues throughout. The course will provide you with an insightful awareness of how theory from a range of areas can both inform and be informed by practice in order to develop your critical and innovative problem-solving abilities.
With Professional Practice at our core you will have a variety of opportunities to acquire qualifications associated with different National Governing Bodies, alongside your study. Your engagement with practical sessions, placements and the application of your knowledge will foster an appreciation of how you influence and are influenced by coaches, athletes and significant others.
As part of an integrated programme with our Masters (MSci) in Sport Coaching Science, there is also an opportunity to seamlessly progress beyond the BSc (Hons) into further study. This progression pathway offers greater exposure to real-world placements and opportunities to work in collaboration with our network of external partners, enabling achievement of a Master’s degree in Sport Coaching Science
Our programme is recognised as among the strongest in the UK. This course has an interactive, innovative practical learning focus and we encourage integration with other courses (e.g. Physical Education, Sport and Exercise Science) to foster a multi-disciplinary understanding of sport coaching science. We have a strong coaching community, both within the university and with external partners, generating a range of theoretical, practical and experiential learning opportunities.
