{"id":52780,"date":"2024-03-20T10:52:28","date_gmt":"2024-03-20T10:52:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.glos.ac.uk\/courses\/story\/a-rewarding-journey-to-becoming-a-data-science-professional-copy\/"},"modified":"2024-04-11T09:54:40","modified_gmt":"2024-04-11T09:54:40","slug":"a-data-science-msc-was-a-gateway-to-new-opportunities","status":"publish","type":"case_study","link":"https:\/\/www.glos.ac.uk\/courses\/story\/a-data-science-msc-was-a-gateway-to-new-opportunities\/","title":{"rendered":"A Data Science MSc was a gateway to new opportunities"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Zeba Khadijah made a successful transition from full time work to data science and developed a more analytical skill set as a result of her studies at UoG<strong>. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Before I started the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.glos.ac.uk\/courses\/course\/das-msc-data-science\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.glos.ac.uk\/courses\/course\/das-msc-data-science\/\">Data Science MSc<\/a> , I worked full time designing mental health awareness campaigns and freelanced as an academic editor. I had a background in psychology, but the world of coding was entirely new to me. I was interested in the applications of data science in behavioral and social sciences, and wanted to build my analytical skills. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;A lot of people around me questioned my decision to transition to data science and wondered whether I&#8217;d be able to cope with a rigorous curriculum without a technical background. But I saw a data science degree as a gateway to new opportunities and was determined to make the best of it. Not having a coding background didn&#8217;t hinder me. I enjoyed working on my assignments, learnt a lot from them and consistently performed well in my modules.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;My time at UoG was an important learning experience. I stayed in university accommodation for the first half of my course, which allowed me to interact with diverse people and learn about different cultures. I took up different part time jobs throughout my studies in popular retail stores and worked as a student ambassador. I was fortunate to make some very good friends at university who I can rely on when I need to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;If you&#8217;re considering doing a data science degree without having a previous background in tech, I&#8217;d say just go for it.
