We apply theories and concepts for an understanding of divisions, differences and structural inequalities; crimes and social harms; forensic and criminal investigation.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>The classical criminological and sociological concepts of intersectionality and structural inequalities are woven throughout this degree<\/strong>, adding depth and purchase to our understandings of identity and power, crime and punishment, justice and injustice.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p>Through the modules, we situate our local lives within the global landscape. We <strong>demonstrate how the criminal justice system can create a fairer world<\/strong> and make a difference to the lives of offenders and victims. We <strong>examine alternative understandings of crime and punishment<\/strong>, exploring restorative and therapeutic approaches for both perpetrators and victims.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p>Research methods are the tools of our trade and <strong>students work on real-world research projects<\/strong>, providing the next generation of Criminologists and Sociologists with the <strong>skills and expertise for employability<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n<p>Our <strong>local connections<\/strong> mean that <strong>students can build their CVs<\/strong> through working with local organisations within modules and <strong>placement opportunities<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/article><article tabindex=\"-1\">\n<p>As a Criminology student you can expect to participate in a range of <strong>lectures<\/strong>, <strong>seminars<\/strong>, <strong>practicals <\/strong>and <strong>simulations<\/strong>.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p>Lecture sizes can range vary from 20 to 100 students depending on the module.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p>Students are assessed via <strong>essays<\/strong>, <strong>AI critiques<\/strong>, <strong>portfolios<\/strong>, <strong>blogs<\/strong>, <strong>journal critiques<\/strong>, <strong>report writing<\/strong>, group and individual <strong>presentations<\/strong> and <strong>a small number of exams<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p>Within the social sciences students are exposed to a range of <strong>guest speakers<\/strong>.
