SUMMARY:Inaugural Lecture by Professor Abigail Gardner
DESCRIPTION:Stories about Listening\n\n\n\nInaugural Lecture by Professor Abigail Gardner\n\n\n\nStories About Listening. Abigail Gardner\, Professor of Cultural Studies at the University of Gloucestershire\, presents her inaugural lecture. \n\n\n\nAbigail’s lecture covers some of the connecting concepts that have driven her research over the last decade\, all of which revolve around a politics of listening. In the first section\, she discusses key ideas from her published work on age and time in relation to women and popular music. These centre on the relationship between image and memory\, on rock memoirs and the ‘menopausal gap’\, and on the ‘time crunch’\, a clash between women musicians’ aged bodies and ‘genre age’. The second section focuses on her applied digital storytelling research\, where she introduces us to projects with the Cheltenham Hebrew Community and Age UK Gloucestershire that highlight the affective importance of listening. She ends with her most recent project\, ‘Mapping the Music of Migration’\, a project that she led across Europe\, where she and her research team used songs to open up listening spaces. \n\n\n\nThe lecture takes place at Park campus and is free to attend. We request those wishing to come to visit Eventbrite to find out more and register your free place.

SUMMARY:Inaugural Lecture by Professor Julie Ingram
DESCRIPTION:Unpacking the Multiple Meanings of Innovation for Sustainable Agriculture: The Who\, What\, How and Why\n\n\n\nInaugural Lecture by Professor Julie Ingram\n\n\n\nWith the many challenges facing agri-food systems and society as a whole\, innovation is needed more than ever. Addressing climate change\, land and water degradation\, loss of biodiversity and food insecurity and injustice\, calls for a transformation in agriculture. Researchers are re-thinking the role of innovation in this transformation and asking: what is innovation\, who innovates and why\, in what direction should it go\, and how can it be supported and achieved at scale? \n\n\n\nJulie will unpack these questions\, showing that the way we think about innovation has evolved in response to calls for more sustainable agriculture\, and in recognition that innovation is a social as well as a technical process. She will reflect on how this shift mirrors her own career and research interests. The different perspectives used to understand\, not only how farmers innovate or adopt innovations\, but also the role of the systems (policies\, supply chains etc) in which they operate\, will be explored. \n\n\n\nDrawing on examples from her research career in the UK\, Europe and international contexts\, Julie will show how different people and communities are actively innovating and creating new directions for the future of agriculture\, for example\, net-zero agriculture\, carbon farming\, nature-friendly farming\, precision agriculture\, smart farming\, agroecology\, regenerative agriculture\, conservation agriculture and climate smart agriculture. \n\n\n\nThe lecture takes place at Park campus and is free to attend. We request those wishing to come to visit Eventbrite to find out more and register your free place.
