SUMMARY:Inaugural Lecture by Professor Jane Monckton-Smith
DESCRIPTION:Getting Into Good Trouble: Activist Research and Femicide\n\n\n\nInaugural Lecture by Professor Jane Monckton-Smith\n\n\n\nAward-winning author Jane Monckton-Smith\, Professor of Public Protection\, presents her Inaugural Lecture: Getting Into Good Trouble: Activist Research and Femicide.  \n\n\n\nIn her inaugural lecture\, Jane will discuss what it means to her to use research in campaigning. Activist researchers seek to have impact from their work that is measurable\, but measuring anything in the social sciences however\, is fraught with difficulty and complexity.  It will inevitably mean taking a strong position.  \n\n\n\nSometimes taking a strong position can get you into trouble\, but in her opinion that can be ‘good trouble’.  Jane will talk about her personal journey working in homicide\, and how her work with the police and bereaved families has been difficult\, sometimes deeply distressing\, but with clear moments for celebration.  \n\n\n\nShe will conclude by illustrating how her work is certainly having impact in ways she could not have foreseen. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Speaker\n\n\n\nA Fellow of the Higher Education Academy\, Jane’s research is focused around interpersonal violence\, and especially how we can prevent homicide. She works with professionals in reviewing homicides and training. She also works with families bereaved through homicide to help them with criminal justice processes. \n\n\n\nJane works as an advisor in stalking\, coercive control and homicide to a number of outside agencies\, including police and specialist charities. \n\n\n\nThe lecture takes place at Park campus and is free to attend. We request those wishing to come to visit Eventbrite to find out more and register your free place.

SUMMARY:Faith in a Time of Climate Change
DESCRIPTION:The Michael Perham University and Cathedral Lecture 2022\n\n\n\nFaith in a Time of Climate Change by Hannah Malcolm\n\n\n\nWhat does the climate crisis reveal to us about being human? How should we rethink our faith in the face of global collapse?\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe are delighted to welcome Hannah Malcolm to present our annual Michael Perham University and Cathedral Lecture. \n\n\n\nHannah was the winner of the 2019 Theology Slam\, and has since edited Words for a Dying World: Stories of Grief and Courage from the Global Church. Hannah regularly speaks and writes about climate justice and environmental theology\, and is a contributor to BBC Radio 4’s Thought for the Day. She is currently training for ministry in the Church of England and writing a PhD on a theology of climate and ecological grief. \n\n\n\nThe Michael Perham University and Cathedral Lecture series is named in commemoration of Michael Perham. As well as being Bishop of Gloucester\, Michael was Pro-Chancellor of the University of Gloucestershire for many years\, served as Chair of the University Council\, and was instrumental in developing closer relationships between the University and the Diocese. \n\n\n\nAdmission is free but places must be booked in advance.
