SUMMARY:Teachers and Advisers CPD - Preparing Our Students for the Future World of Work
DESCRIPTION:Teachers and Advisers CPD – June 2026 Series \n \n \n	\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDelivered online via Microsoft Teams. \n\n\n\nThe world of work is evolving rapidly\, shaped by technological change\, shifting employer expectations and new career patterns\, so how can we best prepare students for what comes next? This 45-minute session explores the future of work and how we can support students to thrive within it\, including insight into how students are being prepared at the University of Gloucestershire. It examines key labour market trends\, the impact of automation and artificial intelligence\, and highlights growth sectors and emerging roles\, while emphasising the increasing importance of adaptability\, creativity\, resilience and wider human skills in a digital world\, alongside what employers are really looking for. The session also shares how employability is embedded across the curriculum through real-world learning\, placements and industry engagement\, and how students are supported to articulate their skills and experiences effectively. In addition\, it offers practical approaches to supporting student readiness\, helping learners navigate uncertainty and change\, build confidence\, and engage positively with non-linear career pathways. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister your interest for any June CPD series\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n \n \n For more information\, get in touch via outreach@glos.ac.uk.

SUMMARY:Inaugural Professorial Lecture - Climate Change: As if people mattered
DESCRIPTION:Climate Change: As if people mattered\n\n\n\nAt a time when global climate goals can feel increasingly out of reach\, how can decision-makers balance the needs of both people and nature to deliver meaningful environmental and social change? \n\n\n\nThis topic will be explored by University of Gloucestershire’s Professor Matt Reed at his inaugural lecture\, taking place on 9 July 2026 at Park Campus. \n\n\n\nReflecting on his research exploring the connections between environmental improvement\, social change and communities\, Professor Reed will explore different approaches to achieving change\, focusing particularly on ideas that emphasise human flourishing and community development. \n\n\n\nUsing examples from organic farming\, renewable energy\, urban agriculture and environmental programmes\, Professor Reed will demonstrate how positive action towards sustainability can create tangible benefits for both people and nature\, offering hope to those seeking solutions to the urgent challenges of climate change. \n\n\n\nThe Speaker\n\n\n\nProfessor Reed joined the Countryside and Community Research Institute (CCRI) in 2009 and has since led a diverse portfolio of research projects spanning food marketing\, commercial fishing\, market towns\, urban food systems\, smartphone applications and forestry initiatives. \n\n\n\nAlongside his research activity\, Matt has represented the CCRI on the Wales ESRC Doctoral Training Partnership and served on the University’s Academic Board. In 2021\, he was appointed Director of the CCRI\, before becoming Head of Research for the University in 2024. He was awarded a Professorship in 2025\, with a focus on emerging climate citizenships. \n\n\n\nLecture Details\n\n\n\nThe lecture will take place at Park Campus (TC014) on Thursday 9 July 2026. Guests should arrive at 5pm for refreshments. The event is expected to finish at 6.45pm. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe will also livestream the lecture – please choose your ticket type according to whether you will be attending in person or online. Virtual attendees will be sent an email to register for the online version of this event 7 days prior\, they will then receive the link to follow on the day. \n\n\n\nTickets are free but must be booked in advance using the link below. \n\n\n\n\nBook your place
