Halls of Residence Arrival Information 2023/24

Once you have fully accepted your halls of residence room, you can move into your halls of residence any time from your contract start date.

You do not need a specific booking slot, simply follow the below arrival instructions:

Key collection: Your keys will be available to collect from our University Security teams who are based on campus 24 hours a day. Please call the relevant number below at least one hour before arrival to ensure they are present. You may also receive your student card which will get into your halls block. However, this might not be available. If your student card is not present, you will find a temporary door code written on the key envelope to access your block.

Compulsory Pre-Arrival halls Induction

Please complete your Pre-Arrival halls Induction which can be found in your halls portal and selecting the Your halls induction 2023 24’ tab. Now follow the simple process and carefully read through each page before accepting. The induction has been designed to help you get ready for life in halls of residence. You should aim to spend at least 5 minutes reading each page.

This compulsory process needs to be completed by all incoming halls students before arrival.

What will my postal address be and where are my halls?

Your postal address will be your halls/block name and room number (found in your room offer within the halls Portal) followed by the relevant halls address.

Why do I need to collect my student card on arrival?

Most of our halls of residence are accessed via this student card (but we also have back-up door codes available if needed). Your ID is also used to access other services along with getting discounted bus access.

Is cleaning provided in rooms and communal areas?

No, a cleaning service will be provided in the stairwells, However, it is the student’s responsibility to keep rooms, kitchens, communal areas and corridors and communal toilets (where provided) clean along with transporting rubbish and waste to the relevant bins.

Is bedding included and what size is my bed?

Bedding is not provided. All Hardwick, Challinor, Park Villas, Oxstalls & Ermin Hall rooms feature a standard-size single bed.

All Pittville rooms* feature a 3/4 size bed (also known as a small double.) These beds are 120cm X 190cm/ 4′ x 6’3″ in size. *Pittville Studio rooms feature a standard size double bed.

How do I access the internet in my room/halls?

Is it possible to view my halls room?

Unfortunately, we are unable to offer Halls tours apart from the ones provided on University Open Days. However, we also offer a comprehensive list of Virtual Tours that are accessible online anytime:

What do I need to bring?

What support is offered to halls students?

The residential support team (see above) are responsible for pastoral support to residential students living in halls. Our Residential Support Advisers (RSAs) are on hand to assist you with a variety of issues that may arise while living in halls of residence, including welfare.

Consisting of three members of staff, RSAs offer pastoral care and welfare advice to students in Halls of Residence. They help students settle in and provide support throughout the year. Another part of the role is to ensure all students abide by the Halls of Residence terms and conditions.

Halls are also supported by 24/7 security, cleaning and maintenance teams who aim to make your stay as productive and enjoyable as possible.

Is it possible also to stay in Halls again during the second year?

Yes, students can live in halls for each of their academic years. Information regarding returning to Halls for the next academic year will be sent to halls students in November 2023.

Can I extend my stay in Halls after my 2023/24 Halls contract ends in June 2024?*

Short extensions will only be agreed if the course requires it. However, there will be halls options available during the summer period for students who want to remain, but this would involve moving to a different halls complex. An email will be sent to all halls students regarding summer accommodation options in April 2024. 

*This is not relevant to the Allied Health students who are contracted from January to December 2024.

I have a car; can I bring it with me if I live in Halls?

Unfortunately, students living within halls of residence are not allowed a car in Cheltenham or Gloucester. The only exception is normally for students with disabilities or medical conditions. Permission is only given once a letter from a medical professional is provided specifically stating the need for a motor vehicle due to a medical condition/disability.

Do I need a TV licence if I live in Halls?

Yes, if you have a TV in your room or watch content on any other device. View TV licensing information.

Is there a bus service that runs between campuses?

Yes, the N bus service runs regularly during the day between Cheltenham University Campuses (including Pittville Student Village.)

The 94 bus service runs between Cheltenham town centre to Oxstalls Campus and onto Gloucester city centre.

It currently costs £2 per journey.

Why not join our official 2023/24 Facebook page for your halls complex? This is a great way to meet your future Hall-mates before arrival.

We will also be updated these pages with the latest accommodation news. Simply select your halls complex below and ‘Join Group’. Accommodation staff will then authenticate and provide access during office hours, Monday to Friday.

Please note that you will only be authorised access to the halls complex you are housed. Any external advertising posted by users will be deleted and ongoing issues may lead to users being removed. 

GP services

How to register with a GP

Cheltenham halls students: Complete this  Registration Form – Medical Centre 2023.docx form and return it via email to: underwood.unireg@nhs.net. The Underwood Surgery team will then use the form provided to register you.

Gloucester halls students: To register simply complete their web-based registration form along with the Student medical questionnaire and Register for online services

Review and confirm your Endsleigh insurance cover: Did you know that some contents insurance is included during your stay in halls of residence? We would also recommend each student confirms their cover to see what is covered in detail along with giving you the option to cover additional gadgets and possessions that aren’t already covered. To do so, either download the brand new My Endsleigh app (see below for more details and download links) or visit Endsleigh’s website to confirm your cover today.
