{"id":16009,"date":"2024-03-11T14:57:52","date_gmt":"2024-03-11T14:57:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.glos.ac.uk\/information\/?post_type=ht_kb&#038;p=16009"},"modified":"2026-02-24T13:41:00","modified_gmt":"2026-02-24T13:41:00","slug":"learning-support-fund-lsf-additional-funding-for-allied-health-courses","status":"publish","type":"ht_kb","link":"https:\/\/www.glos.ac.uk\/information\/knowledge-base\/learning-support-fund-lsf-additional-funding-for-allied-health-courses\/","title":{"rendered":"Learning Support Fund (LSF) &#8211; Additional funding for Allied Health courses for 2026\/27"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Additional funding for Allied Health courses from the Learning Support Fund (LSF) for 2026\/27<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The following information provides details of the additional funding available for full-time students who will start an Allied Health course in September 2026 or January 2027 and who ordinarily live in the UK and will be studying in England.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Student Loans, Dependants\u2019 Grants and Disabled Students\u2019 Allowances (DSA) are available from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.glos.ac.uk\/information\/knowledge-base\/sfe-undergraduate-pgce-funding\/\">Student Finance England<\/a>* for each academic year to help towards living costs and to cover the cost of the Tuition Fees. Please click on the undergraduate links below for more information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-is-7-font-size is-7\">*Loans and Grants from other UK regions will vary. View information for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.studentfinancewales.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Student Finance Wales<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.saas.gov.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Student Awards Agency Scotland<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.studentfinanceni.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Student Finance Northern Ireland<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Undergraduate Healthcare courses at University of Gloucestershire eligible for the additional funding from LSF include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">Blended Adult Nursing pods<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Diagnostic Radiography<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Nursing (Adult)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Nursing (Learning Disabilities)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Nursing (Mental Health)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Occupational Therapy<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Operating Department Practice<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Paramedic Science*<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Physiotherapy (undergraduate and postgraduate)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Social Work** (undergraduate and postgraduate)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Please note that the 2-year <strong>MSc in Physiotherapy<\/strong> attracts the same funding each year from Student Finance England as the BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy.\u00a0Please click on the link above for the relevant region.\u00a0Please note that students from other UK regions should apply for the Postgraduate Loan offered by their funding body.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"heading wp-block-heading\">Previous study<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p> The BSc (Hons) Nursing courses; Physiotherapy; Diagnostic Radiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Operating Department Practice courses are all classed as exceptions to the previous study rule. This means you are eligible to apply for full funding from Student Finance England for these courses as a second degree providing you are not already registered in the same discipline.&nbsp;For example: if you hold an Adult Nursing degree you will be eligible for funding if you want to start a Nursing degree in Mental Health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-is-7-font-size is-7\">*Unfortunately, this is not the case for the <strong>BSc (Hons)<\/strong> <strong>Paramedic Science<\/strong> course. If you have previously studied at level 4 or above this will affect your eligibility for funding for a new course.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are not eligible for Student Finance due to previous study, Paramedic Science students may still qualify for the Training Grant of \u00a35,000 from the LSF in the NHS.\u00a0Applications will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.\u00a0You will need to apply to Student Finance England in the first instance so they can confirm eligibility with a zero entitlement before you can register and apply for the Training Grant as per the instructions below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-is-7-font-size is-7\">**<strong>Social Work<\/strong> <strong>\u2013 undergraduate<\/strong>: Please click on the undergraduate funding relevant to where you live. View information for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.studentfinancewales.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Student Finance Wales<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.saas.gov.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Student Awards Agency Scotland<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.studentfinanceni.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Student Finance Northern Ireland<\/a>. Please not that Social Work as a second degree attracts the Maintenance Loan and Dependants\u2019 Grants (if relevant) but <strong>NOT<\/strong> the Tuition Fee Loan*.\u00a0Tuition Fees can be paid to the university in 8 monthly direct debit instalments in each academic year.<br><br>*This may change with the introduction of the Lifelong Learning Entitlement for students starting courses in England from January 2027 onwards.\u00a0Contact us for more information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"heading wp-block-heading\">Social Work \u2013 postgraduate<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Students can <strong>either <\/strong>apply for the Postgraduate Loan from Student Finance England (\u00a313,206 per course \u2013 not per year); <strong>or<\/strong> apply for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk\/social-work-bursary-swb\/social-work-bursary-postgraduate-students\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Social Work Bursary<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please note that undergraduate <strong>Social Work<\/strong> students are not eligible for the NHS Social Work Bursary in the first year of the course. Eligibility for this bursary from the second year of the course will also depend on the number of bursaries allocated to the University. Please contact us for more information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"heading wp-block-heading\">Training Grant<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A non-repayable Training Grant of \u00a35,000 from the LSF is available per academic year for Nursing and many other Allied Healthcare courses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Additional payments<\/strong> worth up to a total of \u00a31,000 per academic year for specialisms such as Mental Health; Learning Disability and Diagnostic Radiography.&nbsp;A regional incentive of \u00a31,000 will also be available for specialist courses in certain regions.&nbsp;Please note that these payments will automatically be added to your account when you select a qualifying course and University when you apply for the Training Grant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Training Grant and additional payments if relevant will be paid directly in to your bank account in 3 equal instalments in each academic year \u2013 one instalment is paid in each term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To be eligible for the Training Grant and other LSF incentives <strong>you must be eligible for both the<\/strong> <strong>Maintenance Loan and the Tuition Fee Loan<\/strong> from Student Finance, even if you decide not to apply for these loans.&nbsp;However, you will need to apply to Student Finance but you can select a specific loan amount or enter zero if you prefer to do so. You have to upload the Notification of Entitlement from Student Finance into your LSF account when you apply for the Training Grant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You will need to apply every year for funding from Student Finance prior to applying for the Training Grant and other incentives from the LSF.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please note that the Training Grant and other LSF incentives <strong>are NOT available to students who only qualify for the Tuition Fee loan.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To apply for the Training Grant and other NHS incentives listed below please register <a href=\"https:\/\/services.nhsbsa.nhs.uk\/nhslsf\/landing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a> to open an account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<section class=\"acf-block acf-block--reference no-mt no-mb       \" style=\"border-color:#a5a2a2\">\n\t<div class=\"container\">\n\t\t<div class=\"columns is-flex is-vcentered is-marginless\">\n\t\t<div class=\"column is-narrow\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<span\n\t\t\t\tclass=\"reference-icon is-block\"\n\t\t\t\tstyle=\"\n\t\t\t\t\tdisplay:inline-block;\n\t\t\t\t\twidth:24px;\n\t\t\t\t\theight:24px;\n\t\t\t\t\tbackground-color:#1ca691;\n\t\t\t\t\tmask: url('https:\/\/www.glos.ac.uk\/information\/wp-content\/themes\/glos--parent\/resources\/dist\/img\/icons\/reference\/status.svg') no-repeat center;\n\t\t\t\t\tmask-size: contain;\n\t\t\t\t\"\n\t\t\t\taria-label=\"status icon\"\n\t\t\t\ttitle=\"Reference is a status\"\n\t\t\t><\/span>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<div class=\"column\" style=\"color:#000!important\">\n\t\t\t\t<p><strong>Please do not attempt to apply for the LSF Training Grant and incentives via the BOSS system.<\/strong><\/p>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"heading wp-block-heading\"><strong>Parental Support <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a set amount of \u00a32,000 per academic year for students who have parental responsibility for at least one child who is under 15 years of age, or under 17 years of age if the child is registered with special educational needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"heading wp-block-heading\">Travel and Dual Accommodation Expenses<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Help towards costs incurred when undertaking practical training on placements, which are in excess to your normal costs to attend university. Please note that the travel costs vary according to how far the placement is away from the university and not how far the placement is away from where you live or from which \u2018Pod\u2019* you are registered with (*Blended Adult Nursing only).
