It does not require sponsorship or any endorsement by an employer or by the University.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This route allows eligible graduates to stay and work, or look for work, in the UK. Undergraduate and postgraduate Master&#8217;s graduates (or those with a relevant qualification) can stay for two years, PhD or doctoral qualification graduates can stay for three years.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-green-base-background-color has-background\"><strong>Changes to the Graduate route from 1 January 2027<br><\/strong><br>The Home Office published &#8216;A Statement of Changes to the Immigration Rules&#8217; on 14 October 2025.\u00a0This includes some changes to the Graduate route for applications made from 1 January 2027.<br><br>For students who have successfully completed an eligible undergraduate or postgraduate Master&#8217;s, successful Graduate route applications will be granted 18 months of permission if the application is made on or after 1 January 2027. <br><br>Those that successfully complete a PhD or doctoral qualification will be unaffected by the changes and will continue to receive three years of permission if successful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"heading wp-block-heading\">Am I eligible for the Graduate route?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There are a number of requirements to consider before making your application.&nbsp;You&#8217;re only able to be issued a Graduate visa once, so make sure that you consider your options in full before submitting an application.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can apply for a Graduate visa if all of the following are true.<\/p>\n\n\n<div  class=\"wp-block collapsibleRow \">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"collapsibleRow__wrapper\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"collapsibleRow__item\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<input  type=\"checkbox\" name=\"collapsibleRow_group_5163\" class=\"is-sr-only collapsibleRow_group_checkbox collapsibleRow_checkbox\" id=\"collapsibleRow_group_5163_623\" \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t<label id=\"collapsibleRow_group_label_5163_623\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"collapsibleRow_group_5163_623\" role=\"button\" for=\"collapsibleRow_group_5163_623\" class=\"collapsibleRow__title base-text has-grey-light-background-color has-black-color\"><span class=\"is-sr-only\">Toggle collapsibleRow<\/span>Current immigration permission<\/label>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"panel\" hidden aria-labelledby=\"collapsibleRow_group_label_5163_623\" id=\"collapsibleRow_group_5163_623\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\n<p>To qualify for the Graduate route you must hold a valid Student visa&nbsp;at the point of submitting your application \u2013 you cannot switch to the Graduate route from any other type of immigration permission.<\/p>\n\n<p>Your Student visa must be sponsored by a higher education provider listed on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/register-of-licensed-sponsors-students\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Register of Student Sponsors<\/a>&nbsp;as a &#8216;Student sponsor &#8211; Track Record&#8217;.&nbsp;The University of Gloucestershire fulfils this criteria.<\/p>\n\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\n<div  class=\"wp-block collapsibleRow \">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"collapsibleRow__wrapper\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"collapsibleRow__item\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<input  type=\"checkbox\" name=\"collapsibleRow_group_3236\" class=\"is-sr-only collapsibleRow_group_checkbox collapsibleRow_checkbox\" id=\"collapsibleRow_group_3236_1905\" \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t<label id=\"collapsibleRow_group_label_3236_1905\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"collapsibleRow_group_3236_1905\" role=\"button\" for=\"collapsibleRow_group_3236_1905\" class=\"collapsibleRow__title base-text has-grey-light-background-color has-black-color\"><span class=\"is-sr-only\">Toggle collapsibleRow<\/span>Successful completion of an eligible qualification<\/label>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"panel\" hidden aria-labelledby=\"collapsibleRow_group_label_3236_1905\" id=\"collapsibleRow_group_3236_1905\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\n<p>You are only able to apply for the Graduate route if you have already successfully completed a \u2018relevant qualification\u2019. This must be either:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">An Undergraduate degree<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">A Master&#8217;s degree<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">A PhD or other doctoral qualification<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>You must have successfully completed your course during your current period of Student permission. It must be the same course for which your most recent CAS was issued, unless you were permitted to switch to a different course without applying for new Student visa.<\/p>\n\n<p>You will not be eligible to apply for the Graduate route if you exited your course with a lesser award or finished the course with a non-degree qualification, e.g. you exited the course with a postgraduate diploma rather than a Master\u2019s degree.<\/p>\n\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\n<div  class=\"wp-block collapsibleRow \">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"collapsibleRow__wrapper\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"collapsibleRow__item\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<input  type=\"checkbox\" name=\"collapsibleRow_group_3450\" class=\"is-sr-only collapsibleRow_group_checkbox collapsibleRow_checkbox\" id=\"collapsibleRow_group_3450_4605\" \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t<label id=\"collapsibleRow_group_label_3450_4605\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"collapsibleRow_group_3450_4605\" role=\"button\" for=\"collapsibleRow_group_3450_4605\" class=\"collapsibleRow__title base-text has-grey-light-background-color has-black-color\"><span class=\"is-sr-only\">Toggle collapsibleRow<\/span><strong>Study in the UK requirement\u00a0<\/strong><\/label>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"panel\" hidden aria-labelledby=\"collapsibleRow_group_label_3450_4605\" id=\"collapsibleRow_group_3450_4605\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\n<p>To qualify for the Graduate route, you must meet the study in the UK requirement  \u2013 this requirement is different depending on the total length of your course of study. Most University of Gloucestershire courses are longer than 12 months, this includes most Master\u2019s courses that are listed as one year programmes. For clarity, and for visa purposes, the course start and end dates are indicated on your CAS.<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">If you are studying a course that is longer than 12 months, you should have held Student permission (a Student visa) for at least 12 months, during which all study took place in the UK<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">If you are studying a course that is 12 months long or less, you should have held Student permission (a Student visa) for the full duration of your course, during which all study took place in the UK<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>Please note, studying your course in the UK means that you were in the UK when the University needed you to be there, e.g. to attend classes, workshops, or meet with a tutor. If you have approved absences to leave the UK during official academic breaks or on weekends, these should not negatively impact on the study in the UK requirement.<\/p>\n\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"heading wp-block-heading\">When to apply for the Graduate route<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Before you\u2019re able to apply for the Graduate route, the University will first need to make a report to UKVI that you have successfully completed your course. Our report will not be submitted until your work has been graded and your award has been published. Once we have made our report to UKVI, you will receive an email from us to confirm that you are eligible to apply for the Graduate route \u2013 please do not make an application before you have received our confirmation, else your application is liable to be refused. Our email will be titled &#8216;University of Gloucestershire &#8211; Graduate Route&#8217; and will be issued a few days after you have received confirmation of your published award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From a timing perspective, your window of opportunity for applying for the Graduate route is from the day we confirm your successful course completion until the expiry date of your Student visa (marked in green in the diagram below). As long as you apply within this window, your Student permission is automatically extended until the outcome of your Graduate route application, even if its original expiry date has passed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"286\" src=\"https:\/\/cmsr-web-assets.glos.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/129\/2025\/03\/12115059\/Graduate-route-timeline-1024x286.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-129000007500\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"heading wp-block-heading\">How to apply for the Graduate route<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You must complete and submit your application via the online form available at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/graduate-visa\/apply\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">gov.uk<\/a>. A link to this will be provided in your confirmation email from the University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The application can only be submitted from inside the UK. You should not leave the country until you receive the outcome of your application \u2013 travelling outside the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/common-travel-area-guidance\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Common Travel Area<\/a> automatically withdraws your application. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As part of your application, you\u2019ll need to prove your identity and provide your documents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You must pay the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/graduate-visa\/how-much-it-costs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">application fee<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You must pay the relevant&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/healthcare-immigration-application\/how-much-pay\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Immigration Health Surcharge<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students will also need to know the Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) number they used for their most recent Student visa application in order to apply for the Graduate route.&nbsp;This will be provided in your confirmation email from the University. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"heading wp-block-heading\">Your partner and children<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Dependent family members will be permitted on the Graduate route, provided those family members are in the UK and they already hold valid permission as dependants of the main applicant on the Student route. New dependants will not be permitted, except where a dependent child was born in the UK during a period of Student or Graduate permission. If your dependants are outside the UK and you want them to apply for Graduate route permission alongside you, they must join you in the UK and hold immigration permission as your Student route dependant first.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The deadline for dependants to join you on the Student route in the UK is your Student visa expiry date. Therefore, it is important your dependants join you in the UK before your Student visa expires. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If your dependants join you when you have less than six months remaining on your Student permission, they will not pay the Immigration Health Surcharge. They would be liable to pay costs for any NHS treatment they receive until they successfully become a Graduate route dependant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Your dependant partner&nbsp;will need to provide evidence to show that your relationship is&nbsp;genuine&nbsp;and&nbsp;subsisting.&nbsp;For example, at least six different documents from different sources demonstrating that you have lived together at the same address since your last visa was issued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Graduate route dependants will have the same work conditions as you.
