FAQs"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"heading wp-block-heading\">Is study permitted on a Standard Visitor visa?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">On 1 December 2020, the UK&nbsp;immigration rules were changed such that study periods of up to six months are now permitted on a Standard Visitor visa&nbsp;(please note: the category of Short-term student is now only appropriate for students studying English Language programmes lasting longer than six months and up to 11 months).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"heading wp-block-heading\">What kind of study can be undertaken on a Standard Visitor visa?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">The following types of study are permitted on a Standard Visitor visa:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Short course of study lasting up to six months, e.g. Master\u2019s Top-up programmes<\/li><li>Study Abroad programme lasting no more than one semester<\/li><li>Period of research connected to an overseas PhD<\/li><li>Re-sitting of an exam<\/li><li>Retaking of a module<\/li><li>Oral (viva) examination<\/li><li>In-country component of a distance-learning programme<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"heading wp-block-heading\">Can I apply for a Standard Visitor visa on arrival in the UK, or do I have to apply in advance?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">If you are a national of a country on the &#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/guidance\/immigration-rules\/immigration-rules-appendix-visitor-visa-national-list\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Visa national list<\/a>&#8216;, you have no choice but to apply for a Standard Visitor visa in advance of travelling to the UK.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">If you are a national of a country that does <strong>not<\/strong> appear&nbsp;on the &#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/guidance\/immigration-rules\/immigration-rules-appendix-visitor-visa-national-list\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Visa national list<\/a>&#8216;, you are permitted to apply for entry as a Standard Visitor on arrival at the port of entry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Please note: even if you obtain a Standard Visitor visa in advance, you should carry with you all the documents that you submitted with your application when you travel to the UK, since UK Border Force Officers may ask to see them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"heading wp-block-heading\">Is a Standard Visitor visa a multiple entry visa?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">A Standard Visitor visa that is applied for in advance is ordinarily a multiple entry visa, while a Standard Visitor visa issued on arrival in the UK (applicable to non-visa nationals only) is single entry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">If you apply for your Standard Visitor visa on arrival and then leave the UK during your period of enrolment at the University, please note you will need to re-apply as a Standard Visitor when you re-enter.&nbsp; Where an original document (e.g. bank statement, birth certificate) is not in English, it must be accompanied by a translation certified by a professional translator\/translation company. &nbsp;This translation must include details of the translator\/translation company\u2019s credentials, confirmation that it is an accurate translation of the original document, and the translator\/translation company\u2019s contact details. &nbsp;It must also be dated and include the original signature of the translator or an authorised official of the translation company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"heading wp-block-heading\">How much does a Standard Visitor visa application cost<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">See the GOV.UK Standard Visitor visa web pages for up-to-date fees. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<section class=\"acf-block acf-block--reference no-mt no-mb       \" style=\"border-color:#a5a2a2\">\n\t<div class=\"container\">\n\t\t<div class=\"columns is-flex is-vcentered is-marginless\">\n\t\t<div class=\"column is-narrow\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<span\n\t\t\t\tclass=\"reference-icon is-block\"\n\t\t\t\tstyle=\"\n\t\t\t\t\tdisplay:inline-block;\n\t\t\t\t\twidth:24px;\n\t\t\t\t\theight:24px;\n\t\t\t\t\tbackground-color:#1ca691;\n\t\t\t\t\tmask: url('https:\/\/www.glos.ac.uk\/information\/wp-content\/themes\/glos--parent\/resources\/dist\/img\/icons\/reference\/link.svg') no-repeat center;\n\t\t\t\t\tmask-size: contain;\n\t\t\t\t\"\n\t\t\t\taria-label=\"link icon\"\n\t\t\t\ttitle=\"Reference is a link\"\n\t\t\t><\/span>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<div class=\"column\" style=\"color:#000!important\">\n\t\t\t\t<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/standard-visitor-visa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Standard Visitor visa on GOV.UK<\/a><\/p>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"heading wp-block-heading\">How early can I apply for my Standard Visitor visa?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">If you are a visa national, you are permitted to submit your application up to three months before your intended date of travel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"heading wp-block-heading\">How much money do I need to show?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">The UKVI guidance does not state how much money you are required to show.&nbsp; However, in practice, you must show that you have enough money to support yourself without recourse to public funds and without working. &nbsp;It is advisable to provide evidence that you have enough money to cover your course fees and living expenses (to include accommodation). &nbsp;Using the Student Route maintenance figures as a guide, it would be reasonable to show that you have the equivalent of \u00a31015 per month for the duration of your course. &nbsp;Please note: if you will be staying with friends or family while in the UK, you are entitled to include evidence of this, which may decrease the living costs you would ordinarily be expected to show.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"heading wp-block-heading\">Do I need a certificate confirming I am free from tuberculosis?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">You do not need a tuberculosis certificate. This is only required for visits lasting more than six months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"heading wp-block-heading\">Will I be interviewed as part of the visa application process?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">UKVI reserves the right to call applicants for face-to-face interview as it sees fit. &nbsp;Some examples of the sort of questions you might be asked at an interview are as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>How long is your course?<\/li><li>What topics will you be studying during the course?<\/li><li>Why did you choose this course?<\/li><li>Why did you choose the University of Gloucestershire?<\/li><li>How do you intend to travel to the University of Gloucestershire?<\/li><li>Where will you be living in the UK?<\/li><li>Have you ever studied in the UK before?<\/li><li>How are you funding your studies?<\/li><li>What do you intend to do after your course has finished?<\/li><li>Do you intend to work during your studies?<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"heading wp-block-heading\">How much time will I be granted on my Standard Visitor visa?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">You will ordinarily be granted permission to enter the UK for a period of six months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">If you have the need to visit the UK regularly (e.g. you are doing a PhD on a distance-learning basis and need to make yearly visits for supervision), you can apply for a long-term Standard Visitor visa that lasts two, five or 10 years.&nbsp; Please note, however, that you will only be able to stay for a maximum of six months on each individual visit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"heading wp-block-heading\">What conditions will be attached to my Standard Visitor visa?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">As a Standard Visitor, you will <strong>not<\/strong> be permitted to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Work while you are in the UK (this includes paid or unpaid work)<\/li><li>Undertake any business activities<\/li><li>Provide goods or services or sell items direct to the public<\/li><li>Undertake a work placement as part of your study<\/li><li>Extend your stay in the UK<\/li><li>Switch into any other immigration category while you are in the UK<\/li><li>Bring your family to the UK as your dependants (instead, they should apply in their own right as Standard Visitors)<\/li><li>Access medical treatment except for private medical treatment<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"heading wp-block-heading\">What should I do if my visa application is refused?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">It is no longer possible to appeal a refusal of a Standard Visitor visa application.&nbsp;If your application is refused, your only option is to submit a fresh application.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"heading wp-block-heading\">Where can I find further
