{"id":962,"date":"2020-09-23T12:39:50","date_gmt":"2020-09-23T12:39:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.glos.ac.uk\/information\/?post_type=ht_kb&#038;p=962"},"modified":"2026-03-05T17:44:39","modified_gmt":"2026-03-05T17:44:39","slug":"academic-board-terms-of-reference","status":"publish","type":"ht_kb","link":"https:\/\/www.glos.ac.uk\/information\/knowledge-base\/academic-board-terms-of-reference\/","title":{"rendered":"Academic Board Terms of Reference"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"heading wp-block-heading is-2 is-2--mobile\">Academic board<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"heading wp-block-heading is-3--mobile is-3 is-3\">Terms of Reference<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Subject to the provisions of the Articles of Association, to the overall responsibility of the University Council and the responsibilities of the Vice-Chancellor, Academic Board shall be responsible for the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">To oversee the development and enhancement of the academic activities of the University, and to advise the Vice-Chancellor and the Council accordingly.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">To maintain oversight of the relationship between academic and resource planning.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">To oversee academic policy relating to:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">i. Research and scholarship;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">ii. Learning and teaching;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">iii. The academic portfolio, including the approval and closure of courses;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">iv. The recruitment and admission of students;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">v. Academic regulations including those relating to assessment and the classification of awards;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">vi. Arrangements for the management of academic standards and academic quality, including with respect to; the validation, monitoring and review of courses; external examiners and panel members; student representation and feedback;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">vii. Procedures for the approval and award of qualifications and honorary academic titles;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">viii. The academic experience of students, including student support and guidance; and appeals and complaints;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">ix. The University\u2019s arrangements for collaborative provision.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">To ensure alignment with sectoral reference points and to consider and approve reports and responses to external bodies, related to the academic work of the University.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">To establish such committees as it considers necessary to enable it to carry out its responsibilities, provided that each establishment is first approved by the Vice-Chancellor; the membership of any such Committee, and the terms of reference shall be determined by the Academic Board.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">To delegate authority to Boards of Examiners, to administer the arrangements for the conferment of the University\u2019s awards upon individual students who have satisfied the requirements of conferment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">To advise on other matters referred to it by the Vice-Chancellor or the University Council.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">To consider equality and diversity issues arising from the remit of the Board.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">To consider risk issues arising from the work of the Board.
