​​​​What are halls of residence?

Halls of residence are a type of university-managed accommodation that’s available to all students – new, returning, postgraduate and international.

We currently have around 1,900 self-catered rooms available in halls on or near our campuses – each are close to the centre of Cheltenham or Gloucester and served by the university bus service.

Accommodation guarantee

Our accommodation guarantee offers a guaranteed place in university or partner halls of residence for undergraduate, postgraduate and international students who meet the below criteria.

You will be guaranteed accommodation in university halls or partner halls of residence for 2020 entry if you are a first year undergraduate or postgraduate student and:

UK/EU undergraduate students

  • you are holding an unconditional firm or conditional firm offer (UF or CF) at the university, and
  • you have accepted the University of Gloucestershire as your first choice and applied for accommodation by 5 July 2020.

UK/EU postgraduate students

  • you have firmly accepted your offer, and
  • completed the online halls of residence application process by 1 July 2020.

International undergraduate and postgraduate students

  • you have firmly accepted your offer, and
  • paid your tuition fee deposit, and
  • completed the online halls of residence application process by 2 August 2020.

How much do halls of residence cost?

Rooms in halls of residence range in price from £116 to £197 per week (2019/20 figures) depending on which type of room, townhouse or flat you choose. Regardless of which type of room you choose, your rent will include all utility bills (electric, gas and water), internet and basic contents insurance. Halls contracts are usually 40 weeks long, however shorter contracts are available if you require more flexibility – get in touch with our accommodation team to find out more.

What facilities do halls of residence include?

Each halls bedroom includes a bed, wardrobe, storage, chair, desk and internet access. Shared kitchens include a microwave, cooker, toaster, kettle, refrigerator and freezer, and there are laundry facilities available at each residence.

One-bed flats with their own private kitchens are also available, and some halls include additional facilities such as sports pitches, gyms, studios, quiet study areas, faith spaces, bars, refectories and cycle storage.

Residential support

The residential support team is responsible for pastoral support to residential students living in halls. The team consists of full-time residential support advisors, and hall reps who are returning student volunteers recruited by the university to support other students in halls.

The residential support team are on hand to assist you with a variety of issues that may arise while living in halls of residence, including welfare and maintenance issues. The halls are also supported by 24/7 security, cleaning and maintenance teams who aim to make your stay as productive and enjoyable as possible.
