Alongside this work, Dr Adeela has an impressive publishing profile. Her subject of research is disengaged learners who may have other background characteristics which affect their full participation in learning and achieving their potential. Her ongoing activities include EU funded projects on ‘Re-Engaging Young Offenders with Education & Learning’, involving partners in Spain, Italy and Germany, and a project seeking to develop the emotional and social competencies of young offenders through the use of games and sport. In addition, Dr Adeela is engaged in research on academic resilience and is currently leading on a book entitled ‘Reconceptualising Resilience in Education’.

Dr Adeela ahmed Shafi said:
“It is a tremendous honour to be recognised and very humbling. All the work I have done has involved working with so many fantastic people, many of whom may not feel they have a voice or who feel marginalised. I am grateful that they give me the chance to work with them and so this MBE is for them too.”
