Head of School of Business and Technology

Professor Bechkoum has an excellent knowledge of the complexities inherent to technology-enhanced learning with a significant understanding of the technological and business challenges of driving technology change and process improvements.


Professor Kamal Bechkoum is an experienced senior leader and academic in Higher Education with an international background and an in depth knowledge and understanding of the UK HE sector. He held senior positions at several UK universities leading major change programmes successfully.

Professor Bechkoum is Head of our School of Business and Technology and Director of the C11 Cyber Innovation Centre, working with organisations such as Raytheon, Northrop Grumman, GCHQ, Qinetiq, and the Local Enterprise Partnership to produce highly skilled professionals in Gloucestershire and beyond.

He is interested in research projects related to the application of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning to engineering design, cyber security and big data analytics. Examples of some of his PhD students' projects include “Modelling Virtual Characters" and “Implications of Cybercrime in Nepal from the Perspective of Corporate Social Responsibility". He holds a PhD in Software Techniques for Computer Aided Engineering from the University of Cranfield, UK, is a Fellow of the British Computer Society and a Chartered IT Professional.

Artificial Intelligence, Advanced Topics in Computer Science.


Artificial Intelligence, particularly intelligent software agents and their applications to engineering design, information retrieval and e-business (including elearning). Also interested in Cyber Security, leadership and international partnerships and collaboration.

External responsibilities

In addition to being an external advisor to several UK and international higher education institutions, Professor Bechkoum is the Gloucestershire Commissioner for the Cyber Resilience Science and Innovation Audit.
