Prof. Gordon McConville

Professor of Old Testament Theology

Religious, Philosophical and Historical Studies

I have supervised over thirty PhD students on a wide range of topics in the field of Old Testament. These days, I have special interests in Old Testament theology and interpretation, spirituality, and the prophets.

I first studied Modern Languages at Cambridge, then Theology at Edinburgh, and finally back to Belfast and my native Northern Ireland for a PhD on Deuteronomy. Deuteronomy has been an abiding research interest, but these days I focus on biblical interpretation and spirituality, on what it means to 'be human', and currently the Book of Isaiah.
