Literary and Critical Studies

I'm a novelist and Lecturer in Creative Writing. I teach historical fiction, the short story, autobiography and on the critical side, my research encompasses queer fiction and the endings of novels.


My first novel, PETITE MORT (Serpent's Tail, 2013) was longlisted for the Desmond Elliott Prize and the Authors’ Club First Novel Prize, shortlisted for the Polari Prize and the Historical Writers’ Association Debut Novel Prize, and adapted on Radio 4 Woman’s Hour as a ten-part serial starring Honor Blackman. I have also published short stories in a range of magazines and journals, and written and directed short films which have appeared at festivals worldwide.
