Architecture, Construction and Environment

A cross-cultural and interdisciplinary approach is the focus of Ying's research, teaching, and practice in Landscape and Urban Design. This enthusiasm came from her early childhood education in Music and Classical Chinese Poetry. As the First Chinese Course Leader in Landscape Architecture in the UK since the Landscape Institute founded in 1929. Ying believes that she has the responsibility to carry forward the spirit of Sir Geoffrey Jellicoe and contribute to making Landscape Architecture as the most Comprehensive of the Arts in the 21st century.

Ying's landscape design life started in 2009 when she worked at MSP Ltd in London, an office run by Professor Martha Schwartz from GSD Harvard University who encouraged Ying's interest in music, art and design. In 2011 Ying began a PhD at the University of Greenwich in London and became a regular critic for the landscape design studios. After graduating in 2015, Ying worked as a Lecturer in Landscape and Urban Design at School of Architecture and Design at Birmingham City University. Apart from her main academic role in the UK, she has also had a number of guest professor roles overseas, including Brazil, HK, and mainland China. Ying founded an urban design consultancy SUPOS Assessment Method (SAM) Ltd in London in 2017. Its approach follows her PhD research on The Assessment, Design, and Planning of Small Public Spaces in Urban? Area to enhance the design quality, health&wellbeing, and social sustainability for the future of the city.
