Tristan Middleton

Senior Lecturer in Education

I am a Senior Lecturer in the Early Years & Education Team. I am passionate about educational inclusion and the opportunities for higher education to have a positive impact upon education practice. 

Biography

I began my teaching career in 1995 with a PGCE from Bath Spa University, having worked as an actor in children’s theatre for 8 years. I have taught throughout primary and early years in a mainstream primary school in Wiltshire and then a mainstream primary school in Bristol where I became Assistant Head Teacher. I have also been a SENCo, Designated Lead for Child Protection and Designated Teacher for Children in Care. For the last 6 years of teaching I set-up and ran a nurture group provision.

  • PGCE: Primary Education with QTS, Bath Spa University College, 2000 MA Ed, Inclusive practice in schools, University of West of England, 2008
  • PGCAP, Academic Practice, University of Gloucestershire, 2017

  • Tristan is Director and Chair of Leading Learning for Special Educational Needs Community Interest Company.

Research

Focus on education, SEN, nurture groups and narrative enquiry. Current research projects include: The Role of Assessment Feedback in Developing Academic Buoyancy – a collaborative Higher Education action research project.
