Senior Chaplain

We’re looking for a new Senior Chaplain to join our Chaplaincy team at University of Gloucestershire.

Welcome

Thank you for your interest in the Senior Chaplain role at the University of Gloucestershire.

We are a university entering an incredibly exciting chapter, with our new multimillion pound campus opening in the heart of Gloucester this September, and significant investment from the Office for Students enabling state-of-the-art Cyber facilities at our Cheltenham campus being just two examples.

Great facilities are only part of the picture, as our real focus is on people – our students, staff and partners. We are a university which is large enough to offer something for everyone, yet small enough to make agile decisions and move at pace.

The University is based on 4 sites across both Gloucester and Cheltenham, with approximately 9,000 students studying a range of undergraduate, postgraduate, and research degrees, as well as a wide range of apprenticeship programmes.

We are based in a vibrant, well connected and beautiful part of the country which is surrounded by leading employers and organisations such as GCHQ, who we work with to ensure our graduates flourish in their future careers.

About the opportunity

Reporting to the Head of Student Wellbeing, this role is a key leadership role to maintain our Chaplaincy as a vital part of our wellbeing support offer for our students. Our Chaplaincy is a central and important service for our student community, supporting students with their wellbeing, as well as providing a wide range of events and activities to help them connect with their peers.

The University has a strong partnership with the Diocese of Gloucester, and the Senior Chaplain can expect to be fully supported by them in the role. The Chaplaincy supports students from a wide range of faiths and none, and so the Senior Chaplain will be expected to work positively with other local faith groups, and build on the excellent connections already in place.

The successful candidate will be an experienced ordained minister of the Church of England or a church in communion with it, with significant experience of leading and managing staff and budgets, as well as possessing outstanding pastoral skills, with the ability to work with people from a wide range of faiths.

They will also be an effective communicator, an excellent collaborator, with a flexible and innovative approach to work.
