Course overview

Become a manager and leader equipped with the skills and commercial insight to make a real difference in the ever-changing world of business.

Accredited by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), all our Business and Management degrees ensure you develop essential skills, knowledge and experience while completing a Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management as part of your studies. This means potential employers will be confident that you are ‘career ready’ to do anything from working for a multinational corporation to starting and running your own business.

Our Business and Management course scored 93% for academic support in the National Student Survey 2024.

In your first year, you’ll gain solid grounding in all aspects of business and management. In your second and third year, you will continue to develop knowledge and expertise in business and management but also choose a specialist career path.  Choose from business and management, human resource management, entrepreneurship & innovation, digital business and business law.

On the Business and Management stream you will develop your live project management skills exploring alternative approaches to planning, execution, and operations, and learn how project management success can be judged.  We will also challenge you to stretch your global commercial awareness with an international focus on business.  In your final year you will take part in a management consultancy module, where you will have the unique opportunity to experiment in simulated consultancy exercises, before applying what you’ve learnt in a live consultancy project for a business. On successful completion of this module you will gain a nationally recognized CMI qualification in Professional Consultancy.

Throughout your degree, you’ll draw on the expertise of lecturers with extensive professional credentials and research experience, as well as learning from inspiring industry guest speakers. You will also take advantage of the cutting-edge facilities at our brand-new, state-of-the-art, Business School. You can be assured of an industry-led, transformational teaching and learning experience, that will develop your aspirations, promote your self reliance and ensure you are career ready for the future.

You will also have the option to choose a year-long placement in industry.

The following themes underpin our approach to teaching and learning through:

  • authentic in-class challenges that engage you with real businesses and develop your ongoing personal and professional development
  • active learning designed to engage you in a range of learning activities, in addition to lectures, tutorials, seminars, and group exercises, making full use of real-live case challenges, industry guest lectures, live projects, and business pitches.
  • the use of a range of learning enhancement digital technologies; a blended online and face-to-face approach to teaching is designed to maximize your opportunities for learning.
  • computer-based simulations that model real-life situations, enabling you to apply your knowledge, adapt to changing scenarios, and to think out-of-the-box in dealing with simulation examples.
  • lecturers with business practitioner experience to add ‘colour’ to explaining business concepts in sessions.
  • the “sustainability” theme that is embedded within modules across every level, that requires you to think about broader issues that relate to communities and the environment.
  • assessments that are related to real work performed in business.

This course is available to study with an integrated foundation year – an extra, introductory year at the beginning of the full degree. If you don’t meet the stated entry requirements or you’re returning to education, it could be a great option that enables you to study this course.

As well as an introduction to your subject, it will help you to develop valuable study skills, and communication, teamwork and problem-solving techniques, giving you the confidence and skills set you need to progress.

If you’re applying to study as an international student, an integrated foundation year can also support you to improve your English language skills alongside your studies.

"I am currently studying Business Management. It's an amazing course!"

“I absolutely love the teachers and my tutor – they’re all so helpful. I started the course age 21 and decided to come to study in the UK after beginning university in Europe. The induction week was really good, lots of helpful tips and I loved that we got to meet the tutors and teachers on the first day. I liked that the university helps students get jobs in reputable companies from the very first year.”
