Max’s Early Childhood Studies experience

Max Calderan, graduate in Early Childhood Studies BA (Hons).

“Before I began the Early Childhood Studies BA (Hons), I presumed that working with young children was simply just playing and more like babysitting. The Early Childhood Studies lecturers opened my eyes to how important working with children at such a crucial age in their development is.

I was fascinated with topics like multi-agency working and I also loved learning about factors which (both directly and indirectly) influence how children develop. For my dissertation, I chose to focus on racial inclusion, which allowed me to understand some issues which may be pertinent to the sector, and also how things could be improved.

Even though, as a man, I was in the minority within my cohort, I felt very welcomed and accepted.

I am now actively using all the skills I learned during Early Childhood Studies BA (Hons) in my first nursery job. In the future, I may study further in order to become a play therapist, so I can specifically help vulnerable children. I would absolutely recommend the Early Childhood Studies course for anyone who has a passion for working with children.”
