Gowning and photography

Students (graduands), including those from partner colleges, must wear full University of Gloucestershire academic dress to take part in the ceremonies.

Academic dress should always be pre-booked as soon as possible from the University's official supplier, Ede and Ravenscroft. To do this you will need to specify your university, the date of your ceremony and the level of your award (eg Bachelors, Masters, Postgraduate Certificate/Diploma), the name of the University and the ceremony date to be able to book.

If you are in any doubt about which gown to order please contact

You must make sure you have hired your academic dress at least 21 days before your ceremony, and once booked you will be able to collect it at the venue on the day - bring your Ed and Ravenscroft booking receipt with you.

Graduation ceremonies are formal occasions and therefore jeans, T-shirts, sports attire etc. are not permitted. Please wear smart clothes.

It is recommended that you wear a top or shirt that buttons up to the neck, as this makes it easier to attach the hood. It may be useful to bring some safety pins with you to secure the hood to your gown if you don't have buttons on your clothing.

Remember - it is your responsibility to make your own arrangements with Ede and Ravenscroft for the hire of academic gowns so please do this soon after booking your graduation tickets.

Official photography on the day is provided by Ede and Ravenscroft and is available throughout the day (you will be given a prop scroll to hold). You can book this at the same time as booking your gown.

The busiest times for photography are just before and just after a ceremony, please factor this in when deciding what time to arrive at the venue.

Your photographs will be sent to you by Ede and Ravenscroft around six weeks after the ceremony.

If you have any questions, you can find out more on their website or contact the Customer Services Team directly by email at, or telephone on 01223 861854.
