Countdown to family fun day

Held on Saturday February 21 the free event at Oxstalls Campus in Longlevens, Gloucester, offers a huge range of activities and taster sessions for all ages to get involved in and have fun, including rugby, tennis, golf, ping pong and beat the goalie competitions.

Funds raised will provide cardiac screening for 300 young people aged between 14 and 35 facilitated by the CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young) charity in Gloucester, on March 31 and April 1, and the Forest of Dean on October 27.

The event is being organised by university staff and Events Management students. Professor Diane Crone leading the campaign in partnership with The Citizen newspapersaid: “Many young people have undiagnosed cardiac abnormalities which, undetected, can lead to fatal consequences. Cardiac conditions in the young can be devastating for those who experience them and these screening events can help identify young people in the county who have these problems and then have support to manage them in the future.

“The family fun day is a chance for people to do all sorts of sport and physical activity for fun, and to put smiles on people’s faces! We also hope it raises the profile of the importance of cardiac screening and heart health in the county.”

The cost of the CRY Mobile Cardiac Screening Service is £3500 a day and can screen 100 people a day. The Family Fun Day starts at 10am and to find out more, please email: stoptheheartbreak@glos.ac.uk
