Stunning Scottish scenery in ITV drama The Loch filmed by University of Gloucestershire lecturer

It’s been the stand out star of the latest Sunday night crime drama from ITV. The breath-taking, sweeping shots of the Scottish scenery in The Loch were filmed by a team led by Director of Photography Nic Morris, a Senior Lecturer in Film Production at the University of Gloucestershire.

The dark and desolate story is about a serial killer disrupting a small rural community, bordered by untamed nature.

Nic Morris says “The very wet weather and brooding skies we experienced were just right for the atmosphere I wanted to achieve. It was good to work with a very supportive Producer, Willy Wands, who made sure we had the resources to show off the landscape, which in itself effectively became a character in the show.”

Nic Morris, who has also worked on Doctor Who, Beowulf and Being Human, teaches Film Production at the University of Gloucestershire and was able to offer one the students Holly Webber experience of working on the show.

Nic Morris says; “The great landscape came at a price. We found a really strong location for a pivotal scene and of course the best spot was at the very top. A logistical challenge had to be overcome to get all the crew and equipment to the pinnacle and then having done that everything needed to be hidden so it wouldn’t appear in shot!”

The Loch, starring Siobhan Finneran (Happy Valley, Downtown Abbey) and Laura Fraser (The Missing) concludes on ITV at 9pm on Sunday (16th July).
