Sunday Times praises University of Gloucestershire’s “Outstanding Student Satisfaction”

The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide says the “word is spreading” about the quality of the experience the University of Gloucestershire offers students after a jump of 17 places in the latest league table.

The university, which saw applications increase by 9% this year, had big gains in scores for teaching quality (ranked at 27th out of 123) and the overall student experience (ranked in 40th place out of 123) and 71st overall .

A review of the University of Gloucestershire in yesterday’s publication of the Good University Guide reads “Gloucestershire’s claim to offer undergraduates more time with academics in most subjects than almost any other university in the UK is backed up by outstanding scores in the National Student Survey (NSS).”

The Sunday Times also singled out the university’s outstanding drop-out rate – showing students are much more likely to stay and complete their qualifications compared with most other universities, with Gloucestershire only narrowly missing out on the award for “University of the Year for Student Retention.”

Ahead of Clearing this year, the University of Gloucestershire saw a 9% rise in undergraduate applications through UCAS this year than last year.  This is well above the average increase in applications through UCAS across the university sector this year, which is less than 1%.

Stephen Marston, Vice-Chancellor at the University of Gloucestershire, said: “We are pleased that the university has risen 17 places in The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide.

“2016 has been an excellent year for the University of Gloucestershire. The significant improvement we have seen in the National Student Survey and graduate employment data is now coming through in the national league tables.

“We are an ambitious university and the major developments we are making to improve students’ learning, support for employability and the quality of our facilities are clearly paying off.”

The university’s ambitious growth plans include the completion of a new Pittville Student Village in Cheltenham in September 2017, and the development of the Business School, sports facilities and student accommodation at its Oxstalls campus in Gloucester, ready for September 2018.
