University debate tackles issues of the day

The CEO of an organisation tackling radicalism and a local newspaper editor are among the panellists of the Media School debate – National identity: does your country matter in the global environment? at the University of Gloucestershire on April 26.

Taking place at The Park campus in Cheltenham, guests so far include Yousiff Meah, Chief Executive of the RecoRa Institute, which aims to recognise and respond to radicalism, Jenny Eastwood, editor of The Citizen newspaper, Johnny Hall, Founder and Managing Director of digital design agency Mobedia, and Julie Finch, CEO of the Cheltenham Trust.

The event will be hosted and chaired by Anne Dawson, Head of the University of Gloucestershire’s Media School. Having worked for 20 years as a television and radio journalist for the BBC and ITV, Anne became Head of the Media School in 2011 and it is now one of the most highly rated in the country.

Anne said: “Questions will be invited on the topics currently in the news. You’ll be able to join in the debate on a range of issues from fake news and the impact of digital technology on our lives, to thoughts on education and culture.”

The free debate will be live streamed online by students and the URL will be available on the online programme shortly before the event takes place.

Refreshments are available from 5pm, with the debate starting at 5.45pm. Book your place and find out more here.
