What do University of Gloucestershire graduates go on to do?

We’ve pulled together a list of some of our graduates’ successes – because choosing a university is about more than just accommodation, nightlife and the library. University is about being inspired to explore your passions and developing the skills you need for life after graduation.

We’ll help you to reach your goals, both during and after your time at university. Our lecturers are industry experts who will give you the freedom to express yourself and the inspiration to push yourself. You’ll explore what’s important to you and be supported to reach your full potential. 96% of our graduates are in employment or further study within 15 months (HESA Graduate Outcomes Survey 2020/21).

See what our former students have achieved since graduating…

Saving an endangered species

I asked what I could do and found the position I have now.”

Sports and Exercise graduate Ruaridh McConnochie was a silver Olympic medallist with the Great Britain rugby team at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio and went on to play for England in the Rugby World Cup in 2019.

Your Future Plan

Whether you know what you want to do after university or have no idea (that’s ok too!), our ‘Your Future Plan’ programme will support you to become the best graduate you can be, so you feel ready for the next step.

Gain more than a degree…

University is about more than simply a degree: our students learn how to live independently, make lifelong friendships and make mistakes too. It’s okay to not know everything – you’ll learn a lot on your course and a lot off-campus too. Our students often say that they’ve experienced new things that will shape their future, like developing new skills at one of our clubs and societies, or going out of their comfort zone on an international trip.

We think university is a journey – and we’ll be right there with you. Find out a bit more about how volunteering opportunities, travel and placements helped these students make amazing memories and gain new skills:

Volunteering opportunities

Gain real-world experience and valuable contacts or get involved with your community through volunteering opportunities.

Animal Biology student Tolga has grown his passion for animal conservation since his time has uni, which has inspired him in his work on campus: “After my first year I volunteered with Wildlife Act, who protect endangered species in South Africa. It enabled me to strive for my dreams while at university!”

Sport Malawi is a voluntary project in which our sport students deliver workshops and coaching sessions, with the aim of improving the wellbeing of local people. Find out how rewarding and life-changing the experience was for students Josh and Lizzie.

With the support of the Your Future Plan team, or through existing projects within your course, run by the SU or the university’s Sustainability team, you’ll be able to find a volunteering project which brings you closer to your passions and helps you shape your own future.

Travel the globe

“I’ve had so many amazing trips – India was the most amazing experience of my life! As soon as we landed we were enriched with the culture and beauty. It was incredible to learn from first-hand experience; not just reading out of a book.” – Laura Donlin, Religion, Philosophy and Ethics

96% of our study abroad students report an increase in self-confidence.

We care about your future, whatever your ambitions. Many of our courses have an opportunity to study abroad in locations like Canada, New Zealand, France, USA and Spain.

Our students explore new horizons and make unforgettable memories, like Tereza, an Advertising student who spent one semester studying abroad: “I spent one semester in Toronto, Canada which gave me an opportunity to experience different teaching styles, meet great people from all over the world and visit one of the Seven Wonders of the World (Niagara Falls!). It’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I’m so glad I’ve done it. I’ve made tons of friends, memories and I’ve gained invaluable experience I can use in the future.”

Every year our students go on over 4,000 placements and internships in the UK and beyond…

Our students travel far and wide as part of their studies. Each subject area has its own unique range of trips and placement opportunities, both abroad and within the UK.
