Students and authors join Writers Research Riot

Award-winning authors will be sharing the secrets of their success before students take the stage as part of this year’s University Festival.

Organised by staff and students at the University of Gloucestershire, the Writers Research Riot begins with an afternoon panel discussion followed by questions from the audience. The panel includes award-winning writer Joanna Campbell, Anna Lewis (whose first collection Other Harbours is published by Parthian), and Alan Bilton, writer and academic at Swansea University.

The discussion is free and open to the public, and is held at the university’s Francis Close Hall campus in St Paul’s Road, Cheltenham.

The event will be followed by a celebratory reading including work from students and invited writers at the Frog and Fiddle pub on the Lower High Street, Cheltenham.

Lania Knight, Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing at the University of Gloucestershire, said: “Beginning writers are often told to ‘Write what you know’, but this event will help writers at every level see that ‘what you know’ can be easily expanded by research. Come out to hear students and published authors share the fruits of their research and creative work.”

The discussion is from 3pm, while the readings are at 8pm. No booking is required, but more information is available on our website.
