UoG sports scholar is crowned national Welsh athletics champion
University of Gloucestershire sports scholar Millie Webb is celebrating a major achievement on the national athletics stage after being crowned a champion of Wales.
The BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy student and member of the University’s sports scholarship programme stormed to victory in the women’s 400 metres final at the Welsh Senior Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Millie delivered a powerful finish in the home straight to pip the leader on the line by four-hundredths of a second to take gold in 55.64 at the Cardiff International Sports Campus.
Her victory marks a significant milestone in her athletics career and highlights the commitment, discipline and talent she continues to demonstrate on the track, alongside her academic studies.
Millie said: “I’m so happy for this achievement. It only builds more excitement and motivation for the rest of the season.”
The University’s sports scholarship programme helps talented athletes, officials and aspiring coaches achieve their ambitions across a wide range of sports, including access to leading experts and current practitioners, and scholars are able to combine this bespoke support with any degree programme.
Matt Tansley, Head of Sport and Active Life at the University, said: “Millie’s achievement is outstanding, and everyone at the University is delighted to see her hard work and determination rewarded in such a demanding event.
“Her performance was exceptional and reflects the focus, resilience and competitive spirit required to succeed at the highest level.
“We’re proud to support talented athletes as they pursue both their academic and sporting ambitions. Balancing full-time study with elite competition takes enormous commitment, and Millie’s success is a fantastic example of where that dedication can lead.”
Millie’s success is the latest in a series of impressive sporting achievements for students at the University, including Mikkiel Graham and Jax Hundt being recently selected for the English Universities men’s football squad.
