Nearly a third of UoG students are now choosing to live at home while studying. There are many benefits to living at home including flexibility, staying close to friends and family, the ability to juggle work, social or family commitments, as well as saving accommodation fees.
UoG supports students that live at home and commute to university, helping you get the most of your university experience. This page will help you find out what support is on offer.

University of Gloucestershire is easily accessible by road, rail, and bus. The area also benefits from a good network of cycle and walking paths, as well as e-scooter hire in Gloucester and Cheltenham.
Visit our How to find us page for our locations, campus maps, and full details of how to travel to and between our campuses.
UoG students can save a third on local Stagecoach bus travel across Gloucestershire with a capped one-way fare of £2 for the 2026-27 academic year by showing their student card to the driver.
You’ll be able to park on-site at our Oxstalls, Park and Francis Close Hall campuses and our yearly parking permit for students is excellent value for money – currently £79 for the 2025-26 academic year.
You can save a third off rail travel with a 16-25 Railcard if you are aged 16 to 25, or if you are a mature student who is studying full time (over 15 hours a week) for at least 20 weeks a year.
We have a large number of bike loops across all our campuses. There are also 5 bike lockers at Oxstalls, and secure bike storage spaces at City Campus, Pittville Student Village and Francis Close Hall.
You can see the locations of all of the bike loops and lockers on our digital maps. Details of how to cycle between our campuses can be found on our How to find us page.

Each of our campuses has dedicated spaces for you to study independently or relax and socialise between study sessions.
Take a look at our interactive digital maps where you can search for facilities at each campus.

Student gym memberships for the Fitness Suite at Oxstalls are available at highly competitive rates – £54.99 for the 2025/26 academic year. More details can be found in the Health and Wellbeing section of MyGlos.

The Students’ Union (SU) organises a busy calendar of events, many of which take place in the daytime or early evening, meaning that students that need to commute home don’t miss out. There are dozens of clubs and societies run by the SU, and you’ll be able to discover what’s on offer at offer at daytime events.
If you’d like to bring a partner or a friend to a society who is not a UoG student, the SU offers Associate Membership for just £25 for the academic year.
With more than 4,000 placements, internships and trips every year, plus more than 60 clubs and societies to join, UoG gives you the opportunity to find your people and your purpose as part of our inclusive and global community.

Your space to connect before you arrive. 🏠
MyGlos Lounge is an invite-only online community for UoG offer holders. Think of it as a forum where you can connect with others, get to know other local students, ask questions, share worries, and get genuinely excited about what’s coming.
You’ll receive an email with a link inviting you to join MyGlos Lounge when you receive your offer from us.
Get an estimation of how much your travel costs will be before starting uni. Travel costs can be higher at peak times. For example, if you’re using the 16-25 Railcard, a £12 minimum fare applies until 10am on weekdays. If you’re planning on commuting by car, budget for petrol rises during your time at uni.
Register for MyGlosLounge to connect with students who live near you. We also encourage car users to join Liftshare, a free journey sharing platform with over 700,000 members in the UK.
Visit the Students’ Union website to see what events are on and the societies you might like to join. Make sure you come along to the Welcome Fayre at the start of term to find out about all the societies on offer.
If you encounter delays to your commute, make sure you email your lecturer to let them know you are running late. They will make sure sure you will be able to catch up on work missed.
We understand that many of our students that live at home are often juggling other responsibilities. Your personal tutor and lecturers can help with any academic concerns and our Student Support teams provide a range of services including money advice, counselling and help finding work.
Unitemps at UoG is our own on-campus recruitment agency designed to provide paid, temporary jobs to fit around your studies. Once you’ve joined UoG, you can register with Unitemps for regular updates about available paid vacancies.
You’ll also have the opportunity to apply to become a student ambassador. Student ambassadors are employed by the University to support a range of events, sharing their experience and knowledge of life at UoG. Current students can apply for vacancies via MyGlos at the beginning of each academic year.
