UoG meets neighbouring businesses ahead of City Campus opening

University of Gloucestershire staff carried out a door-to-door walkabout in Gloucester this week, meeting local businesses ahead of City Campus opening in August.

Independent businesses were given updates on the site’s progression, which will soon become home to the University’s education, psychology and social work programmes.

The walk also gave local businesses the opportunity to share their plans for the upcoming influx of students, including details of discounts, student events and loyalty cards.

Information about independent businesses who will be providing benefits to students will be compiled into a directory and then shared with all those who will be studying at the new campus.

Independent business owners and staff shared their excitement about the upcoming opening of City Campus and the buzz it will bring to Gloucester City Centre.

City Campus will not only be a vibrant hub for students but will also open its doors to the public giving them access to facilities on the ground floor such as the County Council’s library and a Health, Arts and Wellbeing Centre, created in partnership with the NHS Integrated Care Board.

Dame Clare Marchant DBE, Vice-Chancellor and CEO of University of Gloucestershire said: “We were delighted by the warm reception we received when meeting the independent businesses who will become our neighbours when we move into City Campus.

“At the heart of this game-changing development is a commitment to building connections with local businesses and organisations, and ensuring City Campus fulfils its role in driving regional economic growth and prosperity. Encouraging our staff and students to become patrons of local shops, cafes and restaurants is a key part of this.

“Not only does City Campus bring opportunities for economic growth to independent businesses, but it also offers social value through the inspiring spaces which are available to hire, as well as publicly accessible facilities, such as the library.” Local businesses who wish to be listed in the new directory are invited to provide details of offers and discounts by visiting https://form.typeform.com/to/YQYYbSng before 9th July 2025.
