University of Gloucestershire Film Production graduates win national Award
After winning the Royal Television Society (RTS) Best Entertainment and Comedy Drama at the West of England Student Awards in March, UoG graduates competed against other regional winners in the same category and were awarded the national prize.
The highly prestigious awards by the RTS – an educational charity promoting the art and science of television – recognise and celebrate the wealth of talent, creativity and innovation of students and graduates across the country.
The award was won by a team of six UoG graduates: Alex Russell – Director; Charlotte Davis – Producer; Quan Luong – Cinematographer; Brandon Apps – Production Designer; Imogen Christie – Editor; and Louis Birch – Sound Designer, for their short film, The Face.
The film follows main character Lloyd who finds a rock containing the spirit of an ancient warrior. Lloyd attempts to continue his life as normal, ignoring the face which now appears everywhere he goes, but after being told he must kill or be killed to resurrect the warrior, this becomes an increasingly impossible task.
Alex Russell said: “Winning the RTS award is overwhelming but also very exciting, and I’m just very thankful that people had faith in my film.”
Imogen Christie commented: “It is really exciting to win! It just goes to show that the hard work and effort that you put in is being recognised by other people.”
Mike Parker, Senior Lecturer in Film Production, said: “Many congratulations to the team involved in The Face for this well-deserved win. They should be immensely proud of their achievement in winning the national award for Entertainment and Comedy Drama – it is a testament to their incredible creativity and production talent.”
The win comes at an exciting time for the University’s School of Creative Arts, with the new BA (Hons) Film and TV Production programme launching in September 2025.
Existing students on the separate Film Production and TV Production programmes will transition to the new combined course and continue studying core practical modules, whilst also undertaking additional modules to reflect the changing nature of the industry.
Students embarking on the expanded programme will benefit from the University’s new state of the art virtual production and multi camera studio facilities as part of the new Creative Campus.
