Who’s the Greatest of All Time? Answers on a Postcard Please.

Gloucestershire artists are being invited to honour their Greatest of All Time on postcards, as part of an exhibition being organised by University of Gloucestershire.

The Greatest of all Time Art Show will take place later this year at the University’s Park Campus in Cheltenham, before moving to its new City Campus in Gloucester at the start of 2026.

As part of the show, students, staff, community artists and members of the University’s distinguished alumni community are being asked to create an artwork on goat-shaped postcards, responding to the question: Who is the Greatest of all Time?

The choice of a goat not only reflects the title of the show, it is also a nod to Glossy the Goat, the University’s mascot.

Members of the public have already been asked to submit artwork on a variety of media, expressing their take on The Greatest of All Time. The response to this call for work has been huge and the University is no longer able to accept new entries. A selection of submissions already received will be displayed at the University’s campuses as part of a showcase of work that will take place during the 2025 / 26 academic year.

The latest evolution of the show will see 1000 postcards made available for submissions, providing much greater opportunity for artists to get involved. Moreover, all entries – within reason – will be included in the final hang.

At the end of the show, postcards will be auctioned off, with all proceeds being donated to GRASAC – Gloucestershire Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre. There will also be a prize (£250 worth of Amazon vouchers) for the best entry, as chosen by a panel of UoG experts.

Before submitting their work, artists are asked to take a of photograph of themself with their work and then upload this to social media using the hashtag #myuoggoat – this is so the winners can be identified.

Professor Angus Pryor, Executive Dean for Research and Head of the School of Arts, Culture and Environment, said:

“While this exhibition is a celebration of creativity and inspiration, more than anything it’s designed to be fun. By asking artists to explore their ‘greatest of all time’ through a whimsical approach, we’re opening up powerful conversations in an accessible way. It’s also a fantastic opportunity to welcome the public into our new City Campus and transformed Creative Campus at Park.”

The Greatest of All Time Art Show will run throughout December 2025 at Park Campus, before moving to City Campus in the new year.

Blank ‘goat-cards’ will be available from campus receptions from Monday 29 September 2025, which will also act as submission points.

Community organisations wishing to participate can contact [email protected] to arrange distribution and collection.

The closing date for postcard submissions is 16 November 2025.
