Next Week at City Campus: Workshops, Health Checks and Sport Takeover

As the school holidays draw to a close, University of Gloucestershire’s City Campus is preparing for a programme of activity designed to welcome the community through its doors.

Rubber Stamp Workshop – Tuesday 26 August
On Tuesday 26 August, Dr Katie Forrester, University of Gloucestershire illustration lecturer, will lead a rubber stamp art workshop inspired by her sculpture Queen Aethelflaed, part of the Lions at Large trail.

Participants will create their own designs usings stamps celebrating the Anglo-Saxon warrior queen, who is closely connected to Gloucester’s history.

Dr Forrester said: “It’s hugely exciting to be running this workshop in our new City Campus and providing members of the public with a reason to visit.

As we are in Gloucester, it felt appropriate to focus on Aethelflaed as she is deeply connected to the city – strengthening its defences and ultimately being buried in St Oswald’s Priory. She is a true Gloucester icon.”

The free workshop will run from 11am to 1pm and is open to all (under 18s must be accompanied by an adult). No booking required.

Free Health Checks – Friday 29 August
On Friday 29 August, Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust will be offering free health checks at City Campus as part of Blood Pressure UK’s national ‘Know Your Numbers’ campaign.

The team will be offering people simple health checks, including blood pressure, and chatting to them about changes they can make to their lifestyle, such as stopping smoking, improving their diet or increasing exercise.

The checks are free and open to all – no booking required.

Kings Square Takeover – Saturday 30 August
