Severn Stars unveil new kit and sponsor
Gloucestershire’s new professional netball team, the Severn Stars, has signed a significant sponsorship deal with a global firm.
As the Severn Stars, jointly run by the University of Gloucestershire and University of Worcester, make final preparations ahead of their debut season in the Vitality Netball Superleague in a month’s time, the club has signed a three-year deal with hot tub manufacturer, Arctic Spas.
Founded in 1994 in Canada, Arctic Spas has branches throughout Europe, Russia and the USA, but its European head office is just up the M5 from Gloucestershire in Kidderminster. The company’s logo is now emblazoned on the match day team kit, which can also be revealed today.
Designed by sportswear firm Mizuno, which has a clothing deal with the team, the kit depicts a night sky filled with stars to reflect the name of the team and the stars that play for it. The away kit is sky blue in colour, while home games will be played in midnight blue kit.
David Martin, Chief Executive of Arctic Spas, said: “We saw this as a fantastic opportunity to get on board with the Stars and help bring more professional sport to Worcester and the surrounding counties. Netball is the world’s fastest growing sport and we felt that as a local sponsor, with international ties, it only seemed right to help bring the Stars to the public’s attention. Already the team has signed many international stars, headed up by Pamela Cookey, former England Captain with 114 caps, which seems like a recipe for success.”
Director of Netball for the Severn Stars and University of Gloucestershire, Pamela Cookey, said: “I am so pleased to have signed this three-year main sponsor deal with Arctic Spas. For a company to come on board in this way in our first season shows their ambition and commitment to the Severn Stars and belief in our vision. We are looking forward to working closely with David and his team over the coming season and growing the already formed relationship further.”
Severn Stars player, Laura Malcolm, added: “I think the galactic look of the kit is very unique and Mizuno has been working hard to make sure that each player is happy with the fit of their dress. The ‘Arctic Spas’ logo features on our dress and I think it’s really positive that we have a local business joining the Stars Family for the 2017 season. With our kit now unveiled, and after months of hard work, the whole team is now just looking forward to getting out on the court.”
