Two sport coaching courses at the University of Gloucestershire endorsed by CIMSPA

Two sport coaching courses at the University of Gloucestershire have been endorsed by the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA), after the courses were mapped to CIMSPA’s professional standards framework.

The courses are the BSc and MSci Sport Coaching Science, both based at the University’s Oxstalls campus in Gloucester.

The BSc Sport Coaching Science degree aims to develop students’ understanding of the dynamic and complex interactions which exist within the coaching environment. They investigate the science behind performance for athletes and coaches, whilst developing vital practical coaching skills.

The MSci Sport Coaching Science is an integrated degree where students explore key pathways in pedagogy, leadership and coaching sciences such as psychology, performance analysis, physiology, biomechanics, and ethics, offering opportunities to explore theoretical and practical issues throughout.

Will Roberts, Senior Lecturer in Sport and Exercise, University of Gloucestershire said:
“Graduates from our BSc and MSci courses can progress to working in professional sports coaching, roles within professional sport clubs, roles within national governing bodies, coach education and coaching science. We are delighted to be a CIMSPA Higher Education partner as this means our students receive both a highly-reputable degree plus can be sure they build the professional skills needed for a career in sport coaching.”

Helen Hiley, Education Officer for Higher Education at CIMSPA, said:
“We are pleased to endorse two Sport Coaching Science degrees from the University of Gloucestershire. Having their degrees endorsed assures students that their degrees are professionally recognised by the sector they want to work in.”

CIMSPA’s work enhances the career opportunities and professional development of the workforce operating in sport, fitness, exercise, leisure, gym, coaching, health and wellbeing. The organization achieves this through sector-wide engagement, membership, networking, events, directories and professional standards.

Whilst studying an endorsed degree course, individuals can apply for student membership of CIMSPA, enabling them to access e-learning, guest lectures, digital newsletters and magazines, and work placement, volunteering and job opportunities.

On successful completion of their degree, they can apply for CIMSPA graduate membership.
