University of Gloucestershire celebrates Knowledge Exchange Framework success
The University of Gloucestershire’s leading role in supporting businesses, students and communities across the region has been highlighted in the latest release of the Knowledge Exchange Framework (KEF), published by Research England.
The KEF recognises the impact of universities in working with partners to drive economic growth, build community connections, and share knowledge beyond academia.
In this year’s results, the University achieved High Engagement ratings for:
- Continuing professional development (CPD) and graduate start-ups, reflecting the University’s expanding apprenticeship, CPD and entrepreneurial provision.
- Working with business, underlining its strong links with employers and contribution to boosting productivity and innovation.
- Public and third sector engagement, demonstrating the University’s collaborative work with local authorities, schools, health providers and voluntary organisations.
During the summer, the University opened its new City Campus in the heart of Gloucester. This development is a testament to the importance the University places on its civic role and has already generated a social value of more than £44 million for the local community by creating jobs, establishing new connections with business and the third sector, and respecting the environment during the build process.
In July, the University partnered with Gloucester City Council (through the UK Shared Prosperity fund) to introduce a new version of its Start and Grow programme to support people aged 18 to 30 in developing their business ideas. This programme builds upon the success of the Growth Hub, which launched at the University’s Oxstalls Campus in 2014 and has enabled the University to support thousands of businesses with expert advice and resources, generating an economic boost estimated at reach £48.4 million this year.
Additionally, the University provides placements, mentoring, and career development opportunities, ensuring graduates are equipped to thrive in the workplace. It has consistently been rated as one of the best UK universities for graduate outcomes. A survey conducted by the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) has found that 94.8% of University of Gloucestershire graduates are in employment or further study 15 months after leaving university. This figure puts the University amongst the best in the country.
Alex Cottrell, Head of External Relationships at the University of Gloucestershire, said: “We’re delighted that our continued commitment to supporting business, the public sector, and our communities is reflected in this year’s KEF results. From start-ups and apprenticeships to research partnerships and business support, we are proud of the positive impact we make across Gloucestershire and beyond.
“Our approach also pays dividends for our students. Through our strong partnerships with employers and community organisations, we ensure our students gain the skills, knowledge and opportunities they need to succeed in their future careers. These KEF results highlight the value of our work in connecting students with the world of work and preparing them to contribute to the economic and social prosperity of our region.”
The University’s KEF results reaffirm its role as a key driver of regional growth, skills development and community engagement, central to its mission of being the Connected University at the heart of Gloucestershire.
