UoG works with City Council to drive business growth and enterprise across Gloucester

University of Gloucestershire is introducing a new version of the Start and Grow programme to support young people in developing their business ideas and drive prosperity across Gloucester.

Created in partnership with Gloucester City Council, the free programme is aimed at individuals aged 18-30 who are launching or growing a business in Gloucester and will offer a variety of free activities to support the development of emerging business plans.

Young people who are just beginning their founder journey with an initial idea, or who have been running a business for less than three years, are invited to sign up to the programme to benefit from the range of opportunities that UoG will provide.

As part of the Start and Grow programme, the University will supply: free workshops to build entrepreneurs’ skills and confidence; opportunities for networking with other young founders; real advice on branding, finance, marketing, and leadership; and access to mentors and professionals who have set up their own businesses.

Alex Cottrell, Head of External Relationships at UoG, said: “Building on the success of our Growth Hub and previous programmes for startups, we are really delighted to be working with City Council colleagues to provide a range of services to support the future growth and prosperity of Gloucester.

“With our new City Campus opening shortly, we see our role within Gloucester as key to opening opportunities for everyone and building a connected community, set for success.”

Aligning with the University’s commitment to fulfilling its role in driving regional economic growth and prosperity and its Connected University approach, this exciting opportunity will bring together young founders, experts and professionals, focussing solely on businesses in Gloucester.

Nana Pierre, Economic Growth Officer at Gloucester City Council, said: “The Start and Grow programme funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund will support local businesses to increase confidence, innovation, and professional networks.

“Gloucester is an enterprising city and University of Gloucestershire’s Start and Grow programme is an excellent opportunity to develop the seeds of early-stage enterprises into viable business ventures.”
