If you like the idea of helping young people find their own artistic voice, it’s the next step

Chelsea reflects on her year on the PGCE Secondary Art and Design course.

“Coming onto the PGCE as an illustrator has definitely changed how I think about my own practice. Illustration is a lot about developing a visual language, and the course has made me think more about how that can actually be broken down and shared with other people.

One of the most valuable things has been how much teaching and making overlap. By getting students to experiment and reflect on their work, I’ve had to do the same with my own. It’s made me more aware of my process, not just the final outcome.

It can be challenging at times, but it’s also really rewarding, especially seeing students grow in confidence and start to feel more sure about what they’re making. If you like the idea of helping young people find their own artistic voice, it’s the next step.”
