Cyber Security MSc

University of Gloucestershire

What is Cyber Security MSc?

Advance your skills in Cyber security – a government priority area. Provisionally certified by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), this course covers all aspects of cyber security, including network, computer and information security. Alongside this, the course focuses on the business context, so that students can progress their careers more rapidly and aim specifically at management positions.

The course is designed for those who’d like to develop a career as a cyber security professional, or to take a leading technical or managerial role. It’s suitable for those from a computer science or information technology education background. The programme is also able to cater for those with no formal studies in computer science – but where you can demonstrate significant interest in cyber security.

By having GDPR in action, there’ll be more roles in companies for Information Security Managers, which makes the MSc Cyber Security a brilliant opportunity for a huge market need.

Study style

You’ll be assessed through coursework, essays and case studies. Each module is delivered in a one week block of lectures, tutorials and seminars. This means it’s easy to fit learning around work and personal commitments.

Our cyber labs consists of a virtualised infrastructure designed specifically to launch different cyberattacks in a safe environment, as well as a dedicated Cisco Network Lab for real-world network security testing using Cisco equipment. MSc students also benefit from having their own dedicated teaching lab. You’ll have access to industry-standard equipment including Kali Linux and Cisco Network Packet Tracer – well-recognised tools used to protect organisations against cyberattacks within the industry.

"This course is opening up a number of new avenues for my career."

“Before I started on the Cyber Security MSc I had just completed a BSc (Hons) in Forensic Computing. I was also working part time for Vodafone. I decided to do the course because it covered subjects that I hadn’t looked at as an undergraduate, so it provided a great opportunity for me to expand my knowledge. One of the things that I really like about the course is the number of practical sessions that there are. These enable you to get really hands-on, so we’re not just learning from a textbook, we’re putting our skills into practice.”

Jess, graduate

"I am currently is the Cisco Network Academy Manager at the university"

“I supervise the Cisco Lab for students in all levels.
