This course explores education through an inclusive and socially just lens. You’ll examine how education systems respond to difference, additional needs and inequality, while developing the knowledge and skills needed to support learners across a range of contexts.
The course covers key areas such as SEND, child and adolescent development, mental health and wellbeing, inclusive practice, policy and social justice. Teaching is interactive and discussion-led, encouraging you to think critically, reflect on your own values and engage with real educational challenges.
You’ll graduate with a strong understanding of inclusive education and a clear sense of how education can support individuals, families and communities. The course also provides an excellent foundation for postgraduate study, including teacher training and allied professional routes.

This course is taught through a combination of interactive lectures, seminars, workshops and placement experiences.
You’ll engage in small group seminars which encourage discussion and debate with your peers.
Assessment is predominantly coursework-based, using case studies, portfolios, presentations and research projects to evaluate your progress. While the majority of our assessments are designed to reflect real educational practice, a small number of exams are included to support the development of key academic skills such as critical thinking, reading efficiently and managing time effectively.
We give you opportunities to apply your learning in real-world settings, ensuring you graduate with the confidence and experience to support inclusive education in your future career.

English Language or Literature and Maths Grade 4/C in GCSE (or equivalent) are normally required.
In order to study this course, offer holders will need to complete a satisfactory DBS and Health Clearance check.
This course is available with an additional integrated foundation year. This four year option has lower entry requirements – see below – than the other study type/s available.

We welcome applications from mature students (aged 21 and over) and do not necessarily require the same academic qualifications as school leaving applicants, although some entry requirements may still apply for Professionally Accredited Courses. Typical roles include learning support assistant, SEND support worker, pastoral or wellbeing support worker, inclusion officer, youth or community worker, family support worker and mentoring roles within schools, colleges and community organisations.
The course develops a strong understanding of inclusive education, SEND, mental health and learner wellbeing, alongside transferable skills such as communication, reflective practice, teamwork and critical analysis. Coursework-based assessment supports the development of professional writing, presentation and project skills that are directly relevant to education and support roles.
There are well-established progression routes from this degree into postgraduate and professional training. Many graduates progress to teacher training (primary, secondary or further education), speech and language therapy, educational psychology, education mental health practitioner training, MA Education or MA Inclusive Education. Others move directly into employment within schools, local authorities, charities and third-sector organisations supporting children, young people and families.
The course provides a flexible and supportive foundation for careers focused on inclusion, equity and social justice in education.
