I showcased my work to the public and industry professionals

Jess Winchester graduated with a degree in Interior Design in 2023 and launched her interior design company, Winchester Interiors.

The Interior Design course has been the most exciting, influential, and supportive part of my education. My lecturers and visiting guest speakers have provided so much inspiration for myself as a growing designer, to challenge myself as much as possible, leading me to graduate with confidence beginning my career.

A large part of my confidence can be commended to the self-development work that comes with the course. Our lecturers have helped guide us as designers to find our specialty within interior design, which can cover such a vast range of topic areas. As course rep, I can say that my year group covered a large variety in projects from residential to museum exhibitions, offices to care homes.

My personal passion for interiors lies with the residential sector, which I have been able to challenge through sustainable and well-being design, seeing the reward in designing for a happier and healthier home for people and planet.

In my second year, I also was able to complete a placement, which I worked alongside two different companies to gain experience in the industry and realistic interactions with clients and work deadlines. This has allowed me to improve on skills that will be necessary after graduating, as well as the help from supporting modules on professional promotion.

The highlight of my experience in Interior Design has been our final exhibition. It encapsulated our three final modules in Level 6 Semester 2, as a real designed space that was showcased to the public and industry professionals. I was lucky enough to be a part of the first year to do this exhibition, having a leading role as part of our group to organise it and share my work with designers such as Sims-Hilditch, Luna Design, Edward Thomas Interiors and many more.

Being a part of such a lovely group at UoG has made my experience unmeasurable and forever valuable for my career.
