The flexibility to focus into key areas was what I loved about this course

MSc Health Psychology

“When I began my academic journey, I knew the end goal was working in some way with people who are living with physical or mental health issues, but I wasn’t quite sure how to get there. I explored lots of different routes like counselling and clinical, but when the University of Gloucestershire developed the Masters in Health Psychology, it was a no brainer.

Health Psychology is so varied and broad, encompassing many different areas across the discipline, such as healthy lifestyle behaviours, e.g., physical exercise and nutrition, health inequalities, healthcare services and experiences, research, living and coping with illnesses and so much more! The flexibility to focus broadly, or more specifically into key interest areas was what I loved about it. The course itself, reflected this diversity of the discipline, with each of the course team bringing something different and unique to each module. Additionally, as a mature student, juggling working, family and studying, the support I received from the course team and University was outstanding. This, combined with their passion, encouragement and positive energy made it such a great experience and course to take.

This course has allowed me to complete ‘Stage 1’ of becoming a HCPC registered Health Psychologist. Looking ahead, it has well equipped me to progress into Stage 2 of training and I start the ‘Professional Doctorate Health Psychology’ in October 2022. When qualified, I hope to be researching, practicing in, and teaching health inequalities, social prescribing and older adults health and wellbeing.”
